Boys Town Family Services Specialist in New Orleans, Louisiana

Develops mutually trusting relationships in partnership with parents and acts as an advocate for families while providing supportive resources. Assists families in determining their needs and in identifying and developing goals to meet those needs.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:Provides and secures programmatic services to families and youth.

  • Completes assessments to identify and monitor each family’s need for comprehensive services, including an individualized service plan that responds to the family’s needs.

  • Provides ongoing consultation with parents to ensure follow-through of family service plan.

  • Provides transportation and support for families when needed to access necessary resources.

  • Collaborates with other staff, as appropriate, to develop individualized Family Partnership Agreements (FPA) that describe the family’s goals, strengths, responsibilities and timetables and strategies for achieving these goals.

  • Provides comprehensive community resource information to families.

  • Refers families to appropriate programs such as but not limited to Care Coordination, In-Home Family Services, Common Sense Parenting and/or other community agencies.

  • Regularly meets with family and youth at various locations to engage families and monitor progress towards goals.

  • Collaborates with staff to monitor attendance and follow up on frequents unexcused absences.

  • Monitors and reports to program manager or the multidisciplinary team progress towards goals.

Develops and maintains community relationships and partnerships.

  • For Early Head Start program, in partnership with the center parents, plans and facilitates monthly parenting meetings.

  • Maintains a working knowledge of community resources and current trends in social services.

  • Facilitates Common Sense Parenting & Parent Café classes at child care centers or other venues.

  • Assists with the establishment and maintenance of ongoing collaborative relationships with community organizations responsive to the concerns of the families of children.

  • Builds liaisons with other community agencies that will ensure cooperation, coordination and information sharing.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of community resources and service providers available in the geographical area.

  • Ability to function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with youth, staff, and support agencies.

  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements pertaining to youth care and the ability to learn, apply, and explain complex regulations and policies governing child welfare processes and services.

  • Ability to quickly make decisions in sensitive and sometimes critical areas to adapt responses to situations while maintaining procedural and regulatory integrity.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate’s Degree in social work, human services, family services, counseling, or a related field; or a current credential or certification in social work, human services, family services, counseling, or a related field; or the ability to obtain a credential or certification in social work, human services, family services, counseling, or a related field within 18 months of hire required.

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience including working with children and families required.

  • Possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record and pass an annual Motor Vehicle Registration (MVR) check required.

  • Ability to provide own transportation to complete travel requirements of the job required.

  • Meet auto insurance requirements established by Boys Town policy and/or State and Local laws required.

  • Available to provide crisis response and must be available to work non-traditional business hours including early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working with children and families in community-based programs or Boys Town Programs preferred.

  • Bilingual may be preferred.
