LSU Health New Orleans Division of Facility Services is seeking motivated applicants for the position of Electrician.

The person applying for this position should possess two years of experience in the Electrical trades (such as Electrician’s helper).

The starting rate is $19.67 per hour for this title with an additional $1 Longevity Pay for hours worked only. Rate of Pay is based on applicant’s qualifications.

Duties and responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Installs, maintains, alters, and repairs electrical wiring (underground and above ground), conduit (underground, exterior, and interior), external light fixtures and poles (parking lot, sidewalk, and building), interior light fixtures, power appliances, light machinery, electrical controls (switches, breakers, fuses, and panel boxes), transformers, motor starters, related switchgear and controls, outlets and all other related electrical circuits and equipment which also includes in-house renovations

  • Performs electrical-related demolition and construction work on minor projects as assigned throughout the entire campus

  • Follows all established and recommended procedures for the safe and effective operation of each piece of equipment.

  • Possesses the ability to properly and safely operate the following equipment: manlift, pipe threading machine, drill press, and other equipment used in daily tasks

  • Supervises lesser skilled workers in the absence of Electrician Master

  • Assists other trades as needed; b) special events work; c) campus maintenance emergencies; d) new utilities and equipment installations; e) work orders

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Two years of experience in the electrical trade (such as electrician's helper).

SUBSTITUTIONS:

Training in the electrical trade will substitute for the required experience on a month for month basis.

Job Concepts

Function of Work:

To maintain and install electrical systems primarily 480 volts and under.

Experienced.

Supervision Received:

General from a foreman or other maintenance supervisory personnel.

Supervision Exercised:

Functional over supporting skilled craftsmen and helpers.

May be used by all state agencies.

Job Distinctions:

Differs from Electrician Foreman and Master by lack of supervisory duties.

Differs from Electrician--High Voltage because of work primarily on systems 480 volts and under.

Differs from Electrician Apprentice in that it is of more technical nature and performs journeyman level duties.

Examples of Work

Works primarily on systems 480 volts and under.

Installs, alters, maintains, and repairs wiring systems, public address systems, traffic signals, electric clocks, telephones, floodlights, and other electrical fixtures and equipment.

Maintains electric motors and generators.

Maintains emergency generators; should be able to read schematics and blueprints.

Makes electrical inspections of electrical equipment and appliances.

Seats and replaces brushes; performs some mechanical work in replacing and repairing parts.

Uses standard tools such as volt meters, amp meters, watt meters, and related equipment to trouble shoot and isolate problem and operate various types of electricians electrical systems.

Installs and makes repairs on nonmetallic cables such as romex, conduits (greenfield), and thin wall or rigid conduit.

Troubleshoots, repairs, and installs electrical motor starters, related switchgears, and controls.

May provide support to Electricians--High Voltage and work on high voltage systems when necessary.
