LSU Health New Orleans Division of Facility Services is seeking motivated applicates for the position of Electrician Master. The person applying must possess three years of experience in the electrical trade.

Starting rate of pay is $21.05 per hour, may be adjusted dependent upon applicants’ qualifications. There is also an additional $1 per hour Longevity Pay for hours worked only.

Duties and Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • leads skilled electricians, maintenance repairers and trade apprentices

  • installs, maintains, alters, and repairs electrical wiring

  • replaces ballasts and bulbs in light fixtures

  • locates and corrects power failures

  • performs preventive maintenance tasks

  • minor projects

  • equipment operation

You must include all relevant work experience and education on your application. The duties you describe will be reviewed as part of the process in determining if you meet the minimum qualifications for this job and the offering rate.

  • This is a Civil Service Position.

  • This position does not require applicants to take a Civil Service test.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Three years of experience in the electrical trade.

SUBSTITUTIONS:

Training in the electrical trade will substitute for a maximum of two years of the required experience on a month for month basis.

Job Concepts

Function of Work:

To provide assistance, guidance, and limited support to not less than two Electricians or other journeyman level tradesmen in performing electrical repair, installation and maintenance on systems primarily 480 volts and under.

Level of Work:

Advanced.

Supervision Received:

General from an Electrician Foreman or other maintenance supervisory personnel.

Supervision Exercised:

Leadworker over Electricians, Helpers and Apprentices.

Location of Work:

All agencies, statewide.

Job Distinctions:

Differs from Electrician by requirement to oversee work of other journeyman in a leadworker capacity.

Differs from Electrician Foreman by lack of full supervisory responsibility over an electrical maintenance unit.

Examples of Work

Performs all duties enumerated for the Electrician job.

Provides guidance and assistance to other journeyman in accomplishing larger installation/maintenance assignments.

Assigns specific tasks to other journeyman to assure timely completion of all phases of installation/maintenance assignment.

Insures that sufficient and proper materials and tools are on hand to accomplish assignment.

Acts as assistant to Electrician Foreman in shops having six or more electricians and apprentices.

Keeps records as assigned by Foreman.

Oversees training of apprentices in specific tasks.

Estimates time and material for electrical repair jobs.

Inspects and approves work of contracted employees.
