U.S. Coast Guard Financial Specialist (Business Manager), School of Engineering and Cyber Systems, GS-0501-11 in New London County, Connecticut

Summary This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Coast Guard Academy, Academic Division, School of Engineering and Cyber Systems, New London, CT. Responsibilities This position operates in the the School of Engineering and Cyber Systems of the Academic Division. The mission of the Academic Division is to deliver the academic curriculum and to manage all academic activities and affairs in support of faculty, staff, and cadets. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Serving as the primary expert and coordinator of financial, administrative, and other mission­ support capabilities for the cognizant School. Facilitating, and executing a variety of financial, administrative, and other mission-support functions. Developing, monitoring, and overseeing the execution of the School, Departmental, and Program budgets (to include appropriated and non-appropriated funds) per the strategic intent of the Dean. Monitoring, interpreting, and implementing internal policies for the cognizant School, regarding budget/financial operations, procurement, travel, and personnel management. Generating monthly financial statements and/or reports in accordance with standard and generally accepted accounting procedures and prepare quarterly reports. Managing and coordinating the School's capability to support travel for a variety of academic activities. Preparing and assisting the School Dean in all relevant administrative and operational matters for the School. Other duties as assigned may include assisting the Dean and academic leaders with recruiting, hiring, accreditation details, and external affairs. Requirements Conditions of Employment This position requires a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI). U.S. Citizenship is required. Qualifications Qualifications for GS-11: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples include: Maintaining funding, commitment, and obligation records for assigned accounts; verifying availability of funds; verifying that data is properly posted to accounts; monitoring and interpreting regulations and guidance regarding accounting and budget operations; using an automated accounting system to maintain financial records; generating monthly and quarterly financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting procedures; or executing annual budgets, ensuring the accurate and timely execution of approved expenditures, following up on contracts and procurement activity to monitor spending. OR Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree OR 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.M., if related. OR Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be used to meet experience requirements. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
