Job purpose

The Sr. Manager of Accounting and Grants is an experienced professional who will play a crucial role within the organization and will be supporting key strategic initiatives and core operations in the Finance Department performing grant accounting work to maintain the Agency’s general ledger and remain in compliance with Federal, State and private grant reporting requirements.

Duties and responsibilities

Reporting to the Controller, the Accounting and Grants Sr. Manager will be responsible for the daily accounting activities of the Agency, which includes ownership of various accounting responsibilities, maintenance of journal entries within the general ledger; and assistance with preparations for Agency reporting, including the monthly close which are consistent with federal and state accounting standards, regulations and policies.   The Sr. Manager of Accounting and Grants will also be responsible for management of the Agency’s various grants, including maintaining budgets to actuals, as well as, grant management reporting to the funders. Typical duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Prepare monthly journal entries and maintain account reconciliations and schedules for balance sheet accounts (i.e.: prepaid expenses, accrued expenses, due to/from, etc.); reconcile Agency bank and investment accounts to monthly statements; upload operating account monthly cash activity

  • Maintain fixed asset schedule and related depreciation journal entries

  • Analyze and report on billing account write-offs

  • Provide support in analyzing transactions as requested by the Controller and/or VP of Finance

  • Assist with periodic and annual audits

  • Prepare all semi-monthly, monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual internal and external financial reports for grants and programs, as designated.

  • Review and approve all purchase requisitions for grants and programs.

  • Complete grant worksheet (revenues, receivables, expenditures) for the annual audit

  • Complete all grant budget creation/revisions and reporting, as assigned

  • Meet with grant/program staff to review the fiscal portion of the grant/program, including grant billing, drawdown and expense reports

  • Maintain close oversight of grants, including allocations and time/effort reporting. Forecast and assess progress, proactively report on financial implications and suggest recommendations for action, including re-budgeting; post grant revenue to general ledger

  • Other projects/responsibilities as assigned

    Qualifications

  • BA/BS Degree in Accounting and five (5) plus years’ experience with Federal, State, and private grant reporting is required. A combination of education and experience may be substituted for the degree requirement. 

  • The ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a deadline driven environment.

  • Advanced Excel skills is a must.

  • The ideal candidate will have experience and knowledge of Kronos/UKG payroll and financial software MIP/Sage system.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including skilled in Excel

  • Strong analytical skills

  • Keen attention to detail, including thorough review of work product

  • Strong and effective interpersonal and communication skills; organizational skills and the ability to work in a team-oriented environment and/or independently

  • Ability to prioritize tasks in a deadline driven environment

  • Ability to maintain strictest confidentiality

  • This position will work with internal and external parties to develop and maintain reporting to collaborative stakeholders and related parties.
