Posting Summary
Teaching Instructor, 12-month, non-tenure track position in the Department of Plant Biology.
The incumbent will be responsible for the instruction of curriculum courses in the Undergraduate Program in Plant Science, including those in the plant natural products and horticultural fields of study. To provide educational opportunities in the plant sciences for non-plant science majors, responsibilities will also include the development and instruction of courses, micro credentials, and other programming that involve collaborations with other disciplines and academic programs. Under the direction of the Department Chair and in collaboration with the Plant Science Undergraduate Program Director and the Academic Program Coordinator, the incumbent will assume certain administrative responsibilities related to the Undergraduate Program in Plant Science, including participation in recruitment events, development and maintenance of social media content for the department and undergraduate program, and academic advising for first-year and transfer students. The incumbent will work with the Undergraduate Program Director to implement plant science career development workshops, career-related coursework, and job placement strategies for graduates from the Plant Science Undergraduate Program. 70% teaching, 30% administration.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
This position requires a PhD in Plant Natural Products or a related field. Sufficient background knowledge in plant biology, plant physiology, natural products chemistry, and related scientific principles is essential. Experience with academic advising, and the structure and requirements of undergraduate curriculum design, course planning, and learning goal assessment is highly preferred. Experience in developing and maintaining student industry internship and job placement opportunities is essential. Experience with the Learning Management System, Canvas and teaching experience (2 year minimum) is preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
This position requires excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting effectively with students, faculty, and staff members individually and at public speaking venues. The incumbent must have the ability to convey complex information in a clear and concise manner and to actively listen and respond to student and faculty needs and concerns. Strong organizational and administrative skills are required, including the ability to manage program databases and track student curricular progress.
