Job Overview:
The primary purpose of the Violence Intervention Specialist is to serve as an advocate and role model, providing case management with a trauma-informed approach to individuals who are enrolled in the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital-NB Violence Intervention Program, HVP.
Qualifications:
Required:
Associate's degree required
Experience in human services, public health or related field
Three years of recent experience, such as any combination of student, volunteer, or work experience
Preferred:
Bachelor's degree
Knowledge of Middlesex County and relevant community resources
Scheduling Requirements:
Day Shift- typically an 8am start type (some flexibility available)
Monday through Friday- possibility for weekend event

Essential Functions:
Violence Intervention Specialists are expected to develop a rapport with patients and families, provide accurate information, appropriate community resource referrals, assistance with systems navigation, and long-term emotional and social support to victims of violent crime who are admitted to the Trauma service
The Violence Intervention Specialist s role is to work closely with the rest of the multidisciplinary team to ensure that all program participants are receiving the services best suited to meet their needs
The Violence Intervention Specialist interfaces with the client, in the office and the community, on a regular basis to help him/her practice new skill sets while he/she pursues community referrals and personal goals
This individual will function as a core member of the RWJUH HVIP team and trauma patient care team
A successful Violence Intervention Specialist will have the following qualities: self-knowledge, ability and willingness to follow directions, self-discipline, empathy, tolerance, interest in and willingness to learn, flexibility, writing and typing skills to keep case documentation, common sense judgment regarding personal and public safety issues, willingness to share case related information with team members, ability and willingness to maintain client privacy & respect professional boundaries, the capacity to be proactive rather than reactive, and organizational skills
