Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Senior Accountant for the School of Engineering. The primary focus of the Senior Accountant will be to serve as a team leader in sponsored and non-sponsored activity for the assigned Departments/Centers that includes expense monitoring and budget approval, compliance review, expense projections, and financial report reconciliation. Serving as the team leader requires an understanding of individual grant activity and grant duration. To project a fiscal year's award and expense budget, the Senior Accountant is expected to, with minimal oversight, to analyze projected revenue and expenditures that will take place within that year for existing grants and available funds.Among the key duties of the position are the following:
  • Manages and maintains the administration of the SOE Designated, Endowed, Restricted, and Grant accounts.
  • Monitors, verifies, and reconciles expenditures of budgeted funds, prepares financial statements reflecting status of programs and activities.
  • Analyzes financial data and prepares financial documents and reports for internal and external purposes.
  • Ensures compliance with University and sponsoring agency policies and procedures.
  • Creates and maintains database to capture employee and historical data.
  • Provides assistance in the day-to-day operations and development of assigned Departments/Center's policies and procedures.
  • Performs special projects for management as assigned.
  • Acts as a liaison to ensure the integration of SoE business activities across Departments/Center and within University structure.
  • Works under general supervision, within established parameters, with few direct instructions.
  • Carries out routine and non-routine tasks with occasional review of work outputs by supervisor.
  • Performs professional work requiring knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting principles and practices (GAAP), and a good understanding and application of concepts, theories, principles, practices, terminology, and applied bases of accounting.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Requires a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates comprehensive knowledge and understanding of general accounting principles and practices.
  • Also requires a minimum of five years of relevant professional experience in a financial/accounting function, excellent communication skills, and computer literacy.
