Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Mixologist for The Rutgers Club within the department of Dining Services. We are looking for an individual with a passion for combining elixirs and creating extraordinary cocktails.Among the key duties of the position are the following:
  • Designs cocktails that are seasonal and / or aligned with the style of the establishment.
  • Prepares any house-made syrups, tinctures, bitters, or other ingredients that a bartender will need for service.
  • Selects ingredients behind the bar that are high quality and again, aligned with the bar or restaurant.
  • Creates innovative cocktails, often using unique, house made or historical (and now uncommon) ingredients and combing those to create unusual tastes in drinks.
  • Ability to train and manage bar staff.
  • Recommends and leads training on improvements to bar inventory management, precision pouring, waste reduction and trains all bar staff in the art of drink making.
  • Delivers a consistently high level of customer service to each client and maintain a safe environment.
  • Completes work before the guests arrive.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Requires a two (2) year degree, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Requires a minimum of 2 year's experience working within a fine dining establishment as a Mixologist/Bar Supervisor or Manager.
Certifications/Licenses
  • Must have completed an Alcohol Server Certification Course.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Excellent customer service skills and the ability to understand and respond to individual guest's needs and requirements.
  • Ability to multitask.
  • Should have superior knowledge of liquors, beer and wine.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills.
  • The ability to organize time effectively, forward plan and prioritize tasks to ensure work load is balanced and urgent situations are dealt with immediately.
  • The ability to advise guests on cocktail & wine choices.
