Position Summary:
The Executive Director, Global Product Supply (GPS) Environment, Health, Safety & Sustainability (EHSS) is a leadership role responsible for overseeing all aspects of EHSS for the Global Product Supply organization. This position will provide strategic direction for GPS, ensure compliance with regulations, promote employee safety, operational sustainability and drive continuous improvement. The role reports to the VP of EHSS and is part of the BMS EHSS Leadership Team.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership: Develop and set global strategy for the GPS organization, ensuring alignment with BMS's overall EHSS objectives. Oversee a complex internal and external network, covering Manufacturing, Product Development, and Logistics & Distribution operations to ensure risks are identified and appropriately managed.
Risk Management: Implement and maintain effective risk management principles across all levels of the GPS organization to ensure risks are effectively identified, communicated to leadership, and enable risk-based decision-making, while maintaining healthy vulnerability.
External Audit and Support: Maintain an independent audit and support function to assess third-party partners and mitigate business continuity, reputational and liability risks.
Cultural Leadership: Lead across seams/matrix to create a culture centered around environmental and safety best practices while fostering accountability across all levels of the organization.
Investigations: Lead complex investigations covering sensitive, ambiguous, and compliance-related issues, ensuring appropriate escalation and independence.
Talent Development: Provide talent development leadership for the EHSS teams, in partnership with the Operating Units and the wider BMS enterprise.
Future Trends: Anticipate future regulatory and stakeholder trends that have potential to impact GPS operations.
Metrics and Reporting: Set and support delivery of GPS environmental and safety metrics that enables continuous performance improvement.
External Relationships: Build and maintain relationships with external peers and organizations that enable effective EHSS performance across GPS.
Regulatory Interactions: Partner with various internal stakeholders in negotiations and interactions with regulatory agencies.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health, Safety, Engineering, Sustainability or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
Extensive experience in EHSS leadership roles within a multinational organization, preferably in the pharmaceutical or biopharmaceutical industry.
Proven track record of developing and implementing global EHSS strategies.
Strong knowledge of global EHSS regulations and best practices.
Demonstrated ability to lead matrixed teams and manage sensitive compliance-related issues.
Experience in risk management and the ability to implement effective risk management principles.
Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to foster a culture of safety and accountability across a matrix organization.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
Experience in change management and talent development.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
