Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Data Analyst for the department of Psychiatry at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.Under the supervision of the Assistant Director for IT Clinical and Administrative Systems, the Data Analyst provides data extraction, collection, analysis support and report writing for the Center for Psychiatric Health and Genomics (CPHG), focused on support for the Genomic Psychiatry Cohort (GPC) database. This database provides a platform for research on genetic contributions to psychiatric maladies. It consists of 75,000 records, collected over 25+ years from multiple sites in the US and abroad, of people who have contributed biosamples for genetic analysis and answers to psychiatric questionnaires. The Data Analyst will develop and oversee data infrastructure, data management, and perform analyses to facilitate the accomplishment of applicable research objectives.Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Responds to internal and external requests for data. Develops ad hoc, routine and annual reports and correspondence for stakeholders. Stakeholders include CPHG staff at Rutgers and at subaward collection sites; collaborating researchers at Rutgers and other institutions; and collaborating facilities that are part of the GPC workflow, notably the biorepository at Sampled LLC, data repositories at the National Institutes of Health, and the genetic sequencing facility at the Broad Institute.
  • Prepares datasets and provides supporting documentation for statistical analysis.
  • Develops, updates, and performs data quality control procedures to ensure data integrity. Works to address issues impacting data quality including, but not limited to system issues, data entry errors, and data collection errors.
  • Functions as a seasoned professional with strong skills in planning, organizing, and completing data requests and reporting projects.
  • Assists in the development and revision of documentation related to database administration. Becomes an expert in GPC-related data so as to be responsive to stakeholders for data needs.
  • Participates in the testing, migration and implementation of new software.
  • Searches for best practices, solutions and develops process improvements as needed.
  • Acts as a role model for customer service and improved quality.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • 3 years of experience in academia, government, or industry in the area of design and analysis of projects.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word.
  • Proficiency in a high-level programming language.
  • Working knowledge of database design.
  • Demonstrated expertise of data management and reporting.
  • Ability to create visually appealing and understandable presentation of data.
  • Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement in making critical decisions. Effective oral and written skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master' s Degree.
  • 5+ years' experience in an academia, government, or industry in an analytical role.
  • Familiarity with data management and manipulation using a command-line software environment, such as Unix.
  • Familiarity with the REDCap database system.
  • Working knowledge of statistical analysis.
  • Excellent analytical skills including problem solving, attention to detail and clear communication of complex results.
  • Proven ability to work with the processes and technologies of large datasets.
