Job Overview:
Under the leadership of the RWJUH Community Health Promotions Director and the Lead Community Outreach Specialist, the Community Outreach Specialist is responsible for providing community outreach efforts, distributing community health education and resources to community residents, and completing other program tasks as outlined in the COVID-19 vaccine funded proposal.
Qualifications:
Required:
High School Diploma or Associate Degree in Public Health, Social Work, Psychology or related field. Documented, related work experienced may be substituted for academic requirements year by year
Basic knowledge of community health issues in vulnerable populations and the resources available
Excellent written and interpersonal skills
Be able to lift/push/pull up to 15 pounds and standing, walking, sitting for extended periods of time
Valid NJ driver s license.
Preferred:
Bilingual (English & Spanish) preferred and comfortable maintaining conversations with community residents
Experience with public speaking
Scheduling Requirements:
Per Diem
Availability on weekend: potentially every other Saturdays
Availability on weekdays, both evenings (2-3 times a week) and daytime (1/week)
Nights and weekend availability required
Essential Functions:
Work closely with the RWJUH CHPP Director and Lead CHA to implement a COVID-19 vaccine project outreach activity may include neighborhood canvassing, home visits, health fairs, community events/initiatives, follow-up phone calls and development of community contacts
Implement outreach initiatives and programming to achieve the COVID-19 vaccine grant funded project deliverables, including community engagement activities, and use of marketing materials and social media
Work closely with community contacts within the target communities to support outreach efforts; including reaching out to community-based organizations (CBOs), faith-based organizations (FBOs), government, social clubs, schools, businesses, and other civic organizations
Implement outreach strategies including community street canvassing using infection control and community safety precautions
Track outreach efforts, number of contacts, distribution of flyers and community events
Actively promote project specific information and resources through community engagement and social media
Assist in the preparation of monthly reports reflecting community outreach initiatives (as requested)
Reports should be comprehensive and completed within established time frame
Attend professional meetings and training to keep abreast of issues related to the Community Health Ambassadors work
Apply the knowledge and skills necessary to provide services to all age groups (infants, pediatric, geriatric, adults, and adolescents)
Handle telephone duties in a professional and resourceful manner
Assist visitors and callers inquiring about the program (and other RWJUH-CHPP programs and services) and direct visitors/callers to the appropriate resources
Participate in projects/assignments as deemed appropriate by Director
