Project Overview:

Bechtel is building a semiconductor manufacturing plant in New Albany, Ohio. We are partnering with the North America Building Trades Unions and suppliers to create several thousand new jobs and work with local education organizations to implement new training programs that will support the future talent pipeline. Bechtel Manufacturing & Technology, Inc. offers engineering, procurement, and construction services for customers in the semiconductor manufacturing, electric vehicle, and data center markets. Headquartered in Reston, Virginia, the M&T global business unit also includes colleagues working in Arizona, Ohio, Texas, India, and additional project locations around the world.

Job Summary:

Bechtel is seeking an OSM Construction Coordinator for the Manufacturing & Technology team to join the Offsite Modularization efforts to support execution building execution and heavy commodity rack installation. The position will involve interaction with engineering, procurement, subcontracts and construction to develop and execute an integrated plan from engineering prioritization of deliverables, procurement expediting, subcontract managing and field execution of modules. Provides technical direction to construction engineers and superintendents in a wide range of construction engineering and design functions relating to multi-discipline engineering modularization for the project. The role will require a strong leader who will establish priority, distribute tasks, and owns the execution and follow through. #LI-SM2

Major Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates with engineering on constructability and design issues.

  • Monitoring development of module and site work scope and quantities.

  • Planning, tracking, and reporting on the status of site project readiness to receive modules.

  • Establishes a Design/Field Engineering working relationship and lines of communication with the Project Engineer including agreement on engineering deliverables. Responsible for quantity take-off, control, reporting and forecasting.

  • Coordinates with the superintendents and subcontractors to plan construction schedules.

  • Coordinates subcontract activities to ensure materials, equipment and quality comply with design plans and specifications.

  • Implements controls over variables affecting job progress to ensure engineering and procurement provide timely delivery of drawings, materials and equipment and to ensure that other corporate programs are fully utilized.

  • Coordinates and monitors the interfacing between the construction automation plan and the project controls program at the jobsite.

  • Assesses needs and develops Field Engineering Training Plan for modularization on the project.

  • Directs preparation of cost estimates for construction activities and coordinates the preparation of cost reports, forecast and progress reports. Reviews and provides input to project controls documents on progress relating to cost and schedule.

  • Liaison to the OSM Subcontracts Manager and Subcontracts Administrators on contract administration and activities affecting the contract administration operation. Supports hold/roadblock removal.

  • Develops and ensures the implementation of the project construction procedures from the Standard Work Process Procedures (SWPPs). Coordinates any deviations from SWPPs.

  • Directs the preparation of requisitions for field procured materials, material substitution, services and equipment. Approves requisitions as delegated by the Field OSM Construction Manager. Reviews material receiving reports and warehousing to assure delivery of correct materials.

  • Plans and recommends procedures to be implemented by superintendents to ensure construction operations are within requirements of engineering design and specifications.

  • Directs the maintenance of construction engineering records for job history. Supervises the receiving, distribution, and filing of plans and specifications.

  • Works with customer’s resident engineering and operating personnel to coordinate construction activities.

  • Ensures the implementation of project environmental control plan(s) as required.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • A recognized degree in an engineering or scientific discipline with 5-6 years of experience or 10 years of relevant work experience in heavy industrial construction.

  • Specialized courses in construction management.

  • Actual work experience leading to a thorough understanding of the technical knowledge described above.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of EPC Project Execution.

  • Thorough knowledge of construction activities as they relate to engineering disciplines, cost and scheduling, and contract administration. Knowledge of the use of subcontracts.

  • Technical knowledge of all phases of construction engineering relating to a single discipline interfacing with all areas, or in a multi-discipline position assigned to a single area. (Multi-Discipline experience preferred)

  • Knowledge of the use of subcontracts; knowledge of the contractor/subcontractor’s responsibilities contained in subcontract documents.

  • Prior experience supervising and administering subcontractors.

  • Knowledge of the impact and effect of using field automation tools.

  • Advanced knowledge of work packaging.

  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.

  • Familiar with Bechtel’s Business Ethics handbook and policies.

  • Knowledge and understanding of the application and requirements of the Project Environmental, Safety & Health (ES&H) Handbook and the Bechtel Core Processes as they relate to area of responsibility.

  • Knowledge of project-specific environmental compliance requirements.

  • Knowledge of Bechtel’s “Zero Accidents” safety program.
