The Position

Public Service Interns receive training and complete a variety of assignments in staff activities directly relating to their major course of study while enrolled in an educational institution.

Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.

This internship is a winter internship program starting in December 2024. Under general supervision, the interns will be responsible for the discovery and physical securing of abandoned mine openings that present hazards to humans or animals. The securings are usually barded wire fences. Work will be done at a variety of locations within Nevada. This job requires extensive travel and physical labor as well as camping up to 10 days in the field at a time. Some days will be up to 12 hour days. Successful incumbents will acquire the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for employment in the natural resources industry. Applicants must be full-time students enrolled in a bachelor's degree program in earth science, mining, or related field of study at an accredited college or university. You must provide your own camping gear. Interns are required to lift and carry up to 50 pounds hiking up uneven terrain. This is a field position. To Qualify:

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)

Graduation from high school or the equivalent and enrollment and continued successful performance in an academic program related to the field of employment at an accredited college or university.

Special Notes

Employment is not to exceed six months from the date of graduation. Employment in this class will not lead to permanent status in State service.

Special Requirements

A valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds and hike over uneven terrain. Must be able to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
