The Position

Information Technology (IT) Technicians install, configure, monitor, and maintain networks and monitor and maintain help desk user support or mainframe and server operations.

Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others. This opening is for an IT Technician 6 for the Nevada Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training located in Carson City, NV. Our agency operates on a 4 x 10 schedule, Monday-Thursday. This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with agency and State security requirements regarding system intrusion/prevention/detection, data encryption and will be responsible for the installation and repair of workstation hardware and software on a LAN: on-site maintenance, troubleshooting hardware and software, setting, updating, downloading, migrating and conversions of computers, printers, IT hardware and accessories; identify and recommend hardware and software needs and licensing.

Also responsible for resolving issues at varying difficulties where the cost and effect of system failure is elevated. Operate as the systems administrator for agency databases, C-Cure, FTP and other software. Responsible for maintaining and managing servers locally and remotely. Operate as the point of contact/liaison with OCIO and their Altiris system and SEP for computer management and updates. Required to be the internal help desk as needed by staff. Responsible for working with appropriate parties in the preparation of IT related contracts, requisition of supplies and equipment along with the setup/termination/update of employee email, computer, phone and printer accounts. Responsible for maintaining agency annual IT Training. The incumbent will be responsible for ordering, tracking, maintenance, and inventory of all technical equipment and licenses for the agency. To Qualify:

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)

Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of IT work experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of network workstation hardware and software; OR one year of experience as an IT Technician V in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Requirements

This position is subject to call-out or call-back. A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.

Additional Position Criteria

This recruitment is only open to current classified employees in state service with at least six months of continuous, full-time equivalent service.
