The Position

Game Wardens protect the wildlife and fisheries resources of the State and the public by enforcing wildlife, boating and natural resource laws and by providing education in areas such as wildlife management, and hunter, boating and firearms safety.

Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training. This is a Game Warden Investigator position located in either Reno or Elko, NV, which leads and/or assists in large scale or in-depth regional and State-wide investigations related to both wildlife and boating related incidents.

This position requires a considerable amount of office time vs. field time. Game Warden Investigators must establish and maintain good working relationships with other agencies, courts and individuals, both in and out of state. The incumbent must possess good communication skills, both verbal and written as well as good organizational and time management skills. Investigative skills, including proficiency in conducting interview and interrogations and crime scene management are required. Incumbent will be required to attend training in investigative subject matters, examples of which are, digital forensics, cellular and computer technologies, social media, warrants and search and seizure law. Game Warden Investigators will maintain current training certifications. Game Warden Investigators must be able to work any hours, days, or shifts, including holidays and weekends. Incumbent must be able to travel and camp as needed with little to no prior notice. Examples of investigations include residency fraud, SLAP/ Guide violations, Gross Misdemeanor and felony level wildlife and boating crimes, assisting other agencies on case work. Game Warden Investigators will be required to work in a plain clothes, non-uniformed capacity and occasionally in covert capacity. To Qualify:

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in wildlife management, biology, criminal justice or closely related field and three years of professional experience in enforcing wildlife and/or boating safety laws; OR two years of experience as a Game Warden II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

Special Notes

Candidates hired in this series must acquire Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) certification in Nevada.

Special Requirements

A background investigation prior to being considered for appointment. A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items. A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. Successful completion of a medical examination; physical agility test; psychological test and evaluation, which will include polygraph testing; and a background investigation are required at the time of appointment. A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. For insurance purposes and home storage of state vehicles, employee must reside in the State of Nevada at time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety.- Persons offered employment in this position must first submit to a pre-employment screening test for controlled substances.
