Position Summary/Description:

The UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health is seeking applicants for a fixed-term teaching assistant professor position.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced faculty member to join our team of core instructors to teach multiple required foundational public health courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. These interdisciplinary and highly integrated core courses cover and assess foundational public health knowledge and competencies as required by the Council on Education in Public Health ( CEPH ). The ideal candidate will possess the experience necessary to teach courses related to health policy, US healthcare, and/or public health systems.

Education and Experience:

  • Three or more years of relevant teaching experience, including both undergraduate and graduate courses.

  • Experience teaching courses related to health policy, US healthcare and/or

public health systems required by the Council on Education in Public Health core

competencies

  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous quality improvement and excellence in teaching.

  • Understanding of competency-based education and experience evaluating competency achievement.

  • Demonstrated interest in the use of teaching methods that encourage active student engagement.

  • Track record of effective collaboration as a member of organizations and teams.

  • Experience supervising and mentoring teaching assistants.

  • Experience employing strategies to ensure access to resources and promote student success in a public university setting where students are diverse with respect to social background, economic resources, racial and ethnic identities, religious affiliations, and gender and sexual identification and preference. In addition, experience working in a setting where students may need learning accommodations related to physical abilities (e.g., mobility, sensory) or neurodivergence.
