Position Summary/Description:

A position is available for a scientist at the Postdoctoral Research Associate level in the laboratory of Dr. Virginie Papadopoulou at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Housed jointly between the Departments of Radiology (https://www.med.unc.edu/radiology/ ) and Biomedical Engineering (https://bme.unc.edu/about/ ), the laboratory focuses on human performance and translational biomedical ultrasound research.

The Postdoctoral Research Associate will support research in biomedical ultrasound. Tasks will include biomedical engineering research applied to ultrasound imaging and therapy in both laboratory and clinical environments. The postdoctoral research scholar will be given the opportunity to advise graduate and undergraduate students in the lab, work with clinicians, contribute to funding proposals and engage in additional projects of mutual interest and relevance to the laboratory’s research vision.

This full-time position will involve working with a team as well as preparing papers, reports, and contributing to grants, and thus excellent writing and communication skills are required. Essential research skills will include collecting ultrasound data using laboratory equipment and clinical ultrasound scanners, analyzing results, summarizing and presenting findings (lab meeting, meetings with collaborators, conferences, journal publications). The successful candidate will assist with multiple funded projects in the laboratory, with the opportunity to customize their level of involvement based on interests. Experience with MATLAB , LabVIEW and/or other programming skills would be advantageous. Exposure to modern statistical techniques including linear mixed model analysis, machine learning and other large data analytical techniques would be advantageous.

Applicants are expected to have a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Acoustics or a closely related field. Prior experience with ultrasound systems, acoustics, ultrasound acquisition and/or ultrasound analysis is not a requirement, but will be beneficial. Experience with human subject research and/or preclinical models is advantageous but not essential. Priority will be given to candidates with demonstrated experience using research programmable ultrasound scanners and a track record of publications relevant to the areas of expertise outlined above.
