University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill Post-Doc Research Associate in NC-Chapel-Hill, United States

Vacancy ID: PDS004281

Position Summary/Description:

A position is available for a scientist at the Postdoctoral Research Associate level in the laboratory of Dr. Virginie Papadopoulou at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Housed jointly between the Departments of Radiology (https://www.med.unc.edu/radiology/ ) and Biomedical Engineering (https://bme.unc.edu/about/ ), the laboratory focuses on human performance and translational biomedical ultrasound research.

The Postdoctoral Research Associate will support research in biomedical ultrasound with a focus on human performance. The postdoctoral research scholar will be given the opportunity to advise graduate and undergraduate students in the lab, work with clinicians and physiology collaborators on funded projects, contribute to funding proposals and engage in additional projects of mutual interest and relevance to the laboratory’s research vision.

This full-time position will involve working with a team as well as preparing papers, reports, and contributing to grants, and thus excellent writing and communication skills are required. Essential research skills will include collecting ultrasound and other non-invasive biomedical data using clinical and research ultrasound scanners (primarily cardiac ultrasound imaging in human subject research experiments), analyzing results, summarizing and presenting findings (lab meeting, meetings with collaborators, conferences, journal publications). The successful candidate will assist with multiple diving-related funded projects in the laboratory (sponsored by the Office of Naval Research and the Divers Alert Network research foundation), with the opportunity to customize their level of involvement based on interests. Exposure to modern statistical techniques and large data analytical techniques would be advantageous.

Applicants are expected to have a Ph.D. in Physiology, Exercise Science, Biomedical Engineering or a closely related field. Prior experience with cardiac ultrasound image acquisition and/or ultrasound analysis is not a requirement, but will be beneficial. Experience with human subject research is essential. Prior experience in scuba diving or freediving field research and/or preclinical models is advantageous but not required. Priority will be given to candidates with demonstrated experience conducting and coordinating extreme environmental physiology research and a track record of publications relevant to the areas of expertise outlined above.

Applicants should send a PDF CV/resume and personal statement, with contact info for three references, to papadopoulou@unc.edu . You must use ‘post doc in biomedical ultrasound’ in the email subject.
