Mississippi Employer Transportation Officer in Natchez, Mississippi

Job Summary

The position of Transportation Officer is responsible for the custody, discipline, and transfer of offenders/detainees assigned to the unit in compliance with company policies and procedures while also ensuring transportation vehicles are properly maintained and safe for transports.

 

Essential duties

·

       Conducts pre- and post-trip inspections on all vehicles.

·

       Responsible for necessary paperwork.

·

       Provide custody/safety of detainees.

·

       Read, review, and properly apply information found in inmate records which is related to the inmates' health and safety.

·

       Obey all applicable traffic laws.

·

       Ensure sanitation of transport vehicles.

·

       Promote the development of positive social skills.

·

       Maintain accountability of staff and inmates; adhere to safety practices.

·

       Comply with all applicable regulations.

Required Knowledge Skill/Abilities

·

       Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

·

       Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.

·

       Excellent organizational skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.

·

       Ability to function well in a fast-paced and, at times, stressful environment.

·

       Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Education and Experience

·

       Must be at least 23 years of age.

·

       Valid Driver's License with a clear MVR for three (3) years.

·

       Valid CDL (required) with the Passenger (P) endorsement (preferred), with Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse-DOT (required).

·

       Required to maintain specific State and Federal licenses due to contractual agreements.

Physical Requirements

·

       Long periods of continuous standing and walking.

·

       Frequent periods of sitting per shift.

·

       Repetitive climbing of stairs.

·

       Occasionally lifting or carrying up to 50-100lbs.

·

       Occasional grasping, reaching, pushing, pulling, bending, twisting.

·

       Occasional kneeling, squatting, and bending to perform "pet" or "strip" searches.

·

       Occasional responding to altercationsand occasional restraining and securing assaultive offenders.

·

       Ability to withstand occasional direct or indirect exposure to OC spray.

·

       Exposure to the elements.
