Job Summary and Qualifications

The Expanse Clinical Pharmacy Manager is responsible for designing, implementing and managing the development of clinical pharmacy content in Expanse and associated technology platforms. This includes applying regulatory and safety requirements, formulary management standards, policy and procedure development, and education across the healthcare spectrum, in collaboration with facility, division, and corporate leaders. The Expanse Clinical Pharmacy Manager shall also assist in managing the change control from current electronic health records and technology to Expanse. Occasional travel may be required.

Major Responsibilities:

•Serve as a primary Care Process Design Medication Management clinical advisor, providing timely, evidence-based guidance on clinical pharmacy practice standards and protocols.

•Participates in the design and update of clinical systems, including but not limited to, electronic medical record workflows, documentation standards, and builds for pharmacy, nursing, physician, and ancillary services specific to medication management

•Collaborates with corporate standardization and optimization teams to review, update, and design evidence-based order sets (EBOS) and other evidence-based guidance with clinically accurate and safe medication standards

•Participates in the maintenance of a standardized pharmacy dictionary, to include the addition of new drugs and associated efforts

•Lead the development and review of Expanse-related medication management policies and procedures, ensuring alignment with HCA Healthcare’s strategic priorities

•Participates in change control processes (e.g., Core Team, Working at Rapid Pace Group, advisory boards) and leads when appropriate

•Provide support during new Expanse implementations, to include onsite assistance as needed

•Supports the judicious use of clinical decision support through appropriate prioritization of accurate and actionable information

•Works in close partnership with service line leaders, subject matter experts, and Evidence Services to identify and incorporate evidence-based care standards and best practices into medication management systems

•Upholds the enterprise medication formulary, minimizing non-formulary procurements, utilizing therapeutic interchanges, and promoting rational drug therapy selection for standardization

•Engages clinical pharmacy team members when appropriate to support overarching goals (e.g., antimicrobial management, clinical pharmacist workflow enhancements, clinical metrics)

•Consults medication safety and regulatory experts for opportunity to enhance safe care and maintain compliance with internal and external standards

•Identifies, designs, and analyzes drug utilization reviews to promote rational drug therapy and develops and executes action plans based on results

•Actively supports the strategic goals of the organization to include quality improvement, risk management, and patient safety programs

•Develops and manages relationships across the organization’s matrix environment, including effectively and proactively intervening in conflicts between colleagues regarding medication management issue resolution

•Maintains professional competency sufficient to meet current and future needs of the enterprise

•Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability by performing other duties as assigned, in accordance to the needs of the field and organization

Education & Experience:

•B.S. or Pharm D. from an ACPE-accredited college of pharmacy

•Doctor of Pharmacy from an ACPE-accredited college of pharmacy preferred

•Minimum of 3 years in a pharmacy leadership role preferred

•Minimum of 5 years of hospital pharmacy experience

•Completion of hospital PGY2/ pharmacy specialty residency or fellowship preferred

•Board of Pharmacy Specialties certification or other certification (e.g. FCCP, FASHP)

•Experience working in Microsoft Office Suite programs

•Experience working with MEDITECH electronic health record preferred

•Active Pharmacist license in good standing with the appropriate State Board of Pharmacy required
