Vanderbilt University Admissions Evaluator in Nashville, Tennessee

Position Summary:

The Admissions Evaluator (AE) is part of the Undergraduate Admissions Office, under the Division of Enrollment Affairs at Vanderbilt University and is a key individual contributor responsible for processing applications and academic records of students. This position reports functionally and administratively up through the Senior Associate Director of Admissions for Evaluation and Selection.

The Admissions Analyst assists with the initial evaluation of applications from prospective first year and transfer undergraduate students to assist in building the incoming class at Vanderbilt University.

About the Work Unit:

The Office of Undergraduate Admissions at Vanderbilt University is a critical unit within University Enrollment Affairs that contributes greatly to the entire Vanderbilt community. Its mission is to recruit, select, and enroll a diverse cohort of degree-seeking first-year and transfer students who are intellectually curious, academically talented, and socially engaged. The Office consists of a team that includes the Director, an experienced group of admissions officers, and a well-seasoned support staff engaged in marketing Vanderbilt globally. To accomplish this, members of the OUA team travel both domestically and abroad to conduct high school visits, attend college fairs, and do speaking engagements. The Office communicates systematically with hundreds of thousands of prospective students through traditional printed publications, the web, and other social media channels, and serves as the first point of contact for members of the public interested in VU.

Key Functions and Expected Performance:

• Review first year and transfer student applications for admission to Vanderbilt University.

  • Evaluate and comment, accurately and in a timely manner, as determined by supervisors, on the application information in elation to the entrance requirements.

  • Follows pre-determined file flow to move files through evaluation pipeline.

• Work up to 20 hours per week on average with potential to work up to 29.5 hours per week maximum. The bulk of the application review process is from December through early March.

• Understand and maintain strict confidentiality of admissions process and application data.

• Attend all required in-person and virtual meetings and trainings throughout the year.

• Maintain and respond to office communication in a timely fashion.

• Be able to perform majority of work functions through extended time on OUA provided laptop computer.

• Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Relationships:

• This position does not have supervisory responsibilities. This position reports administratively and functionally to the Assistant Director of Undergraduate Admissions.

Education and Certifications:

• A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education, or the equivalent in experience, is necessary.

Experience and Skills:

• Competence and comfort in learning and working with technology and entering data into internet-based forms is required.

• Ability to understand and maintain strict confidentiality of admissions process and application data.

• Must be able to use a private home office to maintain confidentiality.

• Ability to work independently.

• Ability to meet strict, stated deadlines.

• Ability to communicate and collaborate within a team.

• Ability to manage time constraints and reading goals set by management team.

• Access to high-speed internet connection is required.

Additional Information:

• Employee will work from home after initial training period. This a part-time, seasonal position that is partially benefits-eligible. The application review process for Vanderbilt University – which includes initial training and evaluation & selection for first year and transfer applications – lasts from late August through early May. Hours will vary between 0 to 20 hours per week on average, with the ability to work up to 29.5 hours per week maximum during the height of the season.
