Covenant Health PERIOPERATIVE BUSINESS MANAGER in Nashua, New Hampshire

The starting rate for this position is: $68,000

Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Director of Perioperative Services and the VP of Finance, the Business Manager has overall responsibility for business operations for the Perioperative services. The Perioperative Business Manager collaborates with Perioperative leadership to develop strategies to manage costs, optimize revenue, and develop new business. The Perioperative Business Manager is also responsible for administrative and fiscal management of Perioperative information system. The Perioperative Business Manager supports and assists in the delivery of quality services. The Perioperative Business Manager develops high level relationships with surgeons and organizational leadership to promote effective positive clinical and operational outcomes. The Perioperative Business Manager functions as the primary liaison to financial services, Materials, and IS.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supports and promotes the mission and values of Covenant Health Ministry.

  • Develops capital budget for Perioperative Services in conjunction with Perioperative leadership. Ensures that all capital requests are submitted on schedule with proper justification for evaluation purposes.

  • Monitors capital expenditures and operating budget continuously. Prepares and explains monthly variance reports and develops strategies to rectify as needed. Presents results to the appropriate individuals on a monthly basis.

  • Provides scheduled and requested financial reports related to Surgery. Reviews monthly responsibility summary reports for accuracy and variances.

  • Develops, tracks, and provides insight to operational performance reports (Surgical Dashboard) relative to cost per case, cost per procedure, labor and supply expense per case, turnover time, start times, room utilization, and revenue/profitability per case, and others upon request.

  • Reviews and approves all non-Purchase Order related invoices and expenses. Ensures correct sub-accounts are accurately expensed.

  • Maximizes charge capture and reimbursement, in collaboration with Patient Accounts, Finance, Accounting, and Health Information Management.

  • Conducts cost/benefit and return on investment (ROI) analyses for new products, equipment, and new procedures.

  • Performs labor and expense audits

  • Works closely with surgical leadership, surgeons, and staff to identify expense reduction opportunities in Perioperative services.

  • Works closely with staff to track supply and equipment utilization and develop solutions to maximize efficiency and reduce cost.

  • Works closely with Bio-Med to develops and maintains capital equipment inventory, maintenance, and replacement schedules.

  • Supervises the performance and ongoing development of the Surgical Materials Coordinator, Charge Validator, and Surgical Scheduler.

  • Establishes individual annual performance goals and targets for the Charge Validator, and Surgical Scheduler.

  • Identify strategic initiatives, operational goals, and business plans for Perioperative Services in collaboration with the Director, Perioperative Services and VPMA.

  • Develop annual operational goals and business plans, in conjunction with the Director of Perioperative Services and VPMA.

  • Develop procedures for procurement of non-inventory supplies and authorizes purchases that meet criteria on a daily basis via Online Requisitioning and paper requisitions.

  • Evaluates service contracts annually and determines need for renewal. Negotiates directly with primary suppliers to develop best pricing contracts for supplies and services for the department.

  • Acts as liaison with the Materials Management department to ensure par levels, fill rates, returns, and service levels meet the needs of the department. Working with Materials Management approves all requests for item adds, changes, and removal requests.

  • Acts as representative for peri-operative services on Surgical Value Analysis.

  • Collates evaluations of new products with team. Meets with vendors to review product performance and develops criteria for acceptance/rejection of products with Director.

  • Provides positive contributions as a member on the following committees: Perioperative Leadership, SVAT, Revenue Cycle, and other financial and operational efficiency teams.

  • Other duties as consistent with this role.

    Job Requirements: (education and experience/preferred and required)

    Job Knowledge and Skills

  • The Perioperative Business Manager will have in-depth knowledge of financial analysis/reporting, value analysis/product selection process, annual budget, billing/reimbursement, and materials management.

    Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in finance, accounting, healthcare management or other relevant field from an accredited college or university strongly preferred.

  • Master’s degree preferred.

  • Three to Five years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience; Healthcare and/or OR setting preferred.

    An equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed above may be substituted for the above education and experience requirements.

    Working Conditions/Physical Demands

    Must possess the physical and mental abilities to perform the tasks normally associated with this position that involves a combination of sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, and reaching. Occasional lifting/carrying up to 25 lbs. Some stress related to high level of responsibility for quality care.
