The starting rate for this position is: $19.27

Job Summary:
The Surgical Services Surgical Administrative Assistant is responsible and accountable for the journaling/validating of all surgical charges, scheduling of surgical procedures when needed, and performing job functions related to data collection, data entry, and management of support functions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Supports and promotes the mission and values of Covenant Health Ministry.
Receives, evaluates for completeness, and enters all surgical bookings.
Communicates in an effective manner with surgical offices within and outside of St. Joseph Hospital through email and telephone communication methods.
Calculates average room times, wait times, turnover times, and other statistically relevant information for Surgical Services.
Assists with recording various committee minute meetings as requested by Nurse Manager or designee.
Provides administrative support to the Nurse Manager and/or designee
Provides back up for Charge Validator and/or Administrative Assistance within the Department and/or hospital.
Performs duties related to the overall functioning of the Operating Room.
Demonstrates flexibility and willingness to learn necessary software functions to generate reports.
Notifies purchasing liaison of special needs for procedures
Produces reports in an accurate and timely fashion
Distributes reports and schedules to designated departments
Works collaboratively with various departments as necessary (Quality, Infection Control, HIS…)
Attends/ completes mandatory in-services, competencies, or requirements. Maintains individual educational documentation in online learning modules.
Utilizes hospital communication system (telephone / fax / email / beepers).
Consistently communicates in a manner that is positive and cooperative.
Notifies OR Manager/designee of changes in next day schedule.
Keeps current on new procedures, changes in average length of time and booking problems at time of booking.
Demonstrates current knowledge of unit and departmental policies. Reads and initials memos/required reading.
Follows appropriate chain of command to resolve problems/request time.
Other duties as consistent with this role.
Job Requirements: (education and experience/preferred and required)
Job Knowledge and Skills
Knowledgeable of computer and software systems.
Maintain competencies in those activities which contribute to ongoing development of self and the unit.
Maintains up-to-date knowledge of the OR Charge Master.
Education and Experience
High School diploma or equivalent preferred
Surgical Booking knowledge and/or experience preferred
Operating Room experience preferred
An equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed above may be substituted for the above education and experience requirements.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands
Must possess the physical and mental abilities to perform the tasks normally associated with this position that involves a combination of sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, and reaching. Occasional lifting/carrying up to 25 lbs. Some stress related to high level of responsibility for quality care.
