Chart Industries Principal Engineer – Axial Fan Technology in Naestved, Denmark

The Big Picture

Howden Axial Fans ApS - a Chart Industries Company - in Næstved develop, design and install axial fans to a wealth of heavy industries worldwide. In addition to the axial fans business, we are the allocated service centre for the Nordic region, covering all Howden and Charts products from centrifugal fans and steam turbines to various types of industrial compressors.

The R&D department is part of the global development organisation called Technology within Chart, and responsible for axial fan technology.

What needs to be done?

In your role as Principal Engineer – Axial Fan Technology, you are positioned to be the Product Authority for axial fans. To be the company’s technical expert by: Providing expert knowledge in the field of axial fan engineering, including understanding performance, safe operation, integrity, manufacturing and quality.

You will be accountable for:

  • Leading the governance and maintenance of design rules and specifications. This includes the governance of implantation of these rules into selection software.

  • Participate in problem solving for axial fans where required.

  • Suggest continuous improvement initiatives for axial fan products.

  • Maintain a close working relationship with key engineers involved in axial fans throughout the business.

  • Provide support to proposals and engineering teams throughout the business.

  • Be the Technical Lead on R&D projects.

  • Ensure that product knowledge is shared and is easily accessible.

This is a full-time position with the possibility of hybrid working, which will allow you to enjoy the balance of working from home and in the office with the team and cross functional teams.

In this role you can expect approx. 10-20 days of travel per year.

What do you need to bring?

  • Master’s degree in engineering or equivalent qualification.

  • Strong knowledge of axial fans.

  • Awareness of airflow dynamics, rotor dynamics, noise, material selection, stress analysis.

  • Knowledge about sound & Vibration measurement would be an advantage.

  • Able to understand and potentially give guidance for FEA and CFD calculations would be an advantage.

  • Accurately captures, records and communicates information.

  • Enjoys difficult challenges, finding solutions - not problems.

  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work.

  • Good team player.

  • Strong inter-personal skills.

  • Able to work with people from a wide range of cultures and backgrounds.

  • Good communication skills at all levels, written and verbal.

  • Ability to communicate with both in-house personnel and end-users and be able to explain clearly complex technical subjects.
