General Job Description

This is a professional position responsible for assisting faculty in the design and development of face-to-face and online courses and assists in marketing of online courses. Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Reports to the Learning Experience Design Coordinator.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Contributes as a team member in a process that fosters the use of best tools and best practices in the design, development, and delivery of face-to-face and online courses.

  2. Collaborates with faculty to design and develop online courses and learning objects in accordance with best practices and standards.

  3. Collaborates with faculty to assist in the design of face-to-face instruction.

  4. Collaborates with faculty and staff to design, implement, and assess marketing plans in relation to enrollment in online programs.

  5. Leads the development, editing, and publishing of marketing materials, including departmental website, graphics, printed items, and promotional items.

  6. Maintains currency of knowledge and skills through professional development activities.

  7. Stays informed of new technologies in relation to online course development and marketing.

  8. Assists in hiring, training, and supervising student employees.

  9. Provides training and technical support to faculty.

    Non-Essential Job Functions

  10. Participates actively in related professional organizations.

  11. Performs other related duties as assigned.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.

  1. Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, university policies and procedures.

  2. Knowledge of theories of learning and instructional design.

  3. Knowledge of laws and issues regarding copyright, intellectual property, accessibility, and universal design.

  4. Skill in the use of HTML , scripting, and style sheets.

  5. Skill in the use of software commonly used to develop materials for online courses, including web pages, websites, and digital learning materials.

  6. Skill in the use of software tools for creating and editing graphics, images, and visual layouts.

  7. Skill in the use of a learning management system ( LMS ).

  8. Ability to effectively develop and implement marketing plans in relation to enrollment in online programs.

  9. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.

  10. Ability to establish and maintain a good rapport with university faculty and staff, students, and the general public.

  11. Ability to effectively manage course development projects and meet established deadlines.

    Physical Demands

    Required Education

Bachelor’s degree in education, instructional design, instructional technology, marketing, advertising, or a related field is required.

Required Experience and Training

One year of related experience is required. Experience designing and developing online courses and web pages is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Professional classroom or online teaching experience is preferred. Experience with analytical software, marketing, and/or design and development of graphics is preferred.

Special Conditions for Eligibility

This is a security-sensitive position subject to criminal record check.

This is an IT-sensitive position subject to the Computer and Network Security policy.

Specific Job Requirements/Duties for this Posting

This position is not eligible for full-time telecommuting.

Benefit and Retirement Eligibility

This position is eligible for participation in the Teacher Retirement System of Texas ( TRS ) retirement plan, subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
