CLASS TITLE: Environmental Control Maintenance Leader I

PURPOSE OF THE CLASSIFICATION:

Performs a variety of unskilled and semiskilled tasks and is engaged in the oversight and participation of mowing, cleanup and spraying of City areas; generally, but not limited to, the operation of trucks and medium sized equipment.

ESSENTIAL TASKS:

Oversees and participates in trash pick up, mowing, tree and limb removal, grading and fertilizing; reviews the work of maintenance crews.

Inspects and documents equipment and facility maintenance; issues repair orders to maintenance repair crews; continually checks at job sites to determine work progress from start to completion.

Coordinates mowing, spraying and other manual labor duties performed by the full time department employees and temporary/seasonal employees.

Ensures proper mixing and amounts of chemicals for pesticide application.

Instructs all employees, full time and temporary, in the appropriate safety equipment usage and safe operation of tractors, brushhogs, chainsaws, weed eaters and other departmental equipment used as required by law.

Maintains office records pertaining to the application of chemicals and daily work performed.

Performs other work as necessary and or as assigned.

Must report to work on a regular and timely basis.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

The Environmental Control Maintenance Leader I reports directly to the Environmental Control Supervisor.

The Environmental Control Maintenance Leader I oversees all maintenance personnel in the Environmental Control Division.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Training and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent and three (3) years of experience as a trades helper or maintenance laborer in any of the construction and maintenance trades, preferably including some work experience involving the operation of light to medium construction equipment with at least one (1) year of the experience leading and coordinating or providing general crew oversight or supervision.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Good knowledge of the principles and technique employed in mowing, spraying and street sweeping; good knowledge of planning and organizing work; considerable knowledge of the purposes of beautification needs of the community; and knowledge and understanding of materials needed for jobs. Ability to plan and carry out special maintenance projects; ability to speak and write effectively and ability to keep and prepare records and reports.

Physical requirements include occasional walking and standing; frequent lifting and carrying up to fifty (50) pounds; occasional lifting and carrying more than sixty (60) pounds; frequent reaching, handling and twisting; occasional balancing, stooping, kneeling and crawling.

Licenses and Certificates: Possession of a valid Oklahoma Class B CDL and Certified Applicators License is required.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Work in this classification is primarily outdoors. Will travel to other City locations as required. Exposure to wet, h ot, cold and/or humid conditions. Requires ability to work weekends and holidays and maintain an on call status.

Notice: This classification is a safety sensitive position as defined by the United States Department of Transportation drug and alcohol testing regulations, the Oklahoma Standards for Workplace Drug and Alcohol Testing Act and/or the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana laws. As a safety sensitive classification, the employee will be subject to drug and alcohol testing including random testing. Marijuana is one of the substances included in the drug panel screening. Possession of a medical marijuana license will not excuse the employee from the testing process or the consequences of testing positive for marijuana.
