Intermountain Health Phlebotomist in Murray, Utah

Job Description:

The Phlebotomist II is responsible to collect patient specimens for medical diagnostic testing, perform moderately complex laboratory testing, and may act as a Team Lead.

Sign on bonus Eligible - $1750

Job Essentials

  1. Performs sample collection that may include: a. Venipuncture (evacuated systems, syringe, winged collection infusion sets); b. Capillary Puncture (finger, heel); c. Blood culture collections; d. Throat and/or Nasal Swabs.

  2. Duties include at least one of the following assigned functions:

a. Moderately complex laboratory testing.

b. IV certified responsibilities (must be IV Certified).

c. Demonstrates skill and draws from arterial lines.

d. Prepares and processes samples for testing (including aliquoting, centrifugation, tracking).

  1. Uses experience and skills to serve as a resource to other Phlebotomists and hospital staff. Mentors new staff.

  2. Troubleshoots testing process issues and may lead process improvement initiatives.

  3. Performs phlebotomy computer functions effectively and appropriately for assigned responsibilities.

  4. Researches esoteric testing collection and understands sample integrity requirements.

  5. Performs and documents quality assurance checks and provides correction and maintenance.

  6. Responsible for pick-up and delivery of specimens throughout the facility.

  7. Appropriately instructs patients and family members on sample collection.

  8. May act as Team Lead which includes: Uses advanced skills to assist employees in difficult collection situations; fulfills some coordinator functions in the absence of the coordinator or supervisor; oversees work flow and adjusts workflow assignments; provides training and orientation to new staff; and investigates, records, and corrects errors.

Full time, 36 hours

Minimum Qualifications

Basic Life Support certification (BLS) for healthcare providers.

Phlebotomy training as approved by Manager/Supervisor or one year previous phlebotomy experience.

Experience working in a team environment under stressful situations.

Self-motivated and experience working independently.

  • and -

Flexibility to work a variety of shifts that may include weekends, holidays, and nights.

Preferred Qualifications

High School diploma or GED as needed for CLIA compliance.

Experience teaching concepts to others.

Physical Requirements:

Interact with patients, patients' family, patient care providers, and others requiring the employee to verbally communicate information, as well as understand spoken information.

Operate computers and complex and delicate lab equipment with precision and accuracy requiring the ability to move fingers and hands.

See and read lab equipment, labels, monitors, and documents.

  • and -

Walk while transporting phlebotomy equipment cart.

  • and -

Remain standing for long periods of time to perform work.

  • and -

Adjust body, including bending, to perform phlebotomy work.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.

$18.66 - $25.33
