We are looking for a Principal System on Chip (SOC) Design Engineer to work in the dynamic Microsoft Artificial Intelligence System on Chip (AISoC) Silicon team. The candidate should be a highly motivated self-starter who will thrive in this cutting-edge technical environment.

Responsibilities

  • Drive many facets of high performance, high bandwidth designs.

  • Manage tasks that include working on Intellectual Property (IP) microarchitecture specification, Register Transfer Level (RTL) design, System on Chip (SOC) integration including clocking and resets, Synthesis and static checks such as Lint and Clock/Reset domain crossings.

  • Interact with various teams, including architecture, verification, and physical design, ensuring that the design is implemented and verified to the spec.

  • Establish yourself as an integral member of a design verification team for the development of AI components with focus on verifying functions and features.

  • Lead a pre-silicon verification team for the development of custom Intellectual Property (IP) and Subsystem (SS) components with focus on architectural and micro-architectural based functions and features.

  • Collaborate with the architecture and design teams to ensure the implementation meets both architectural and micro-architectural intent.

  • Write, execute, enhance, and debug constrained random stimulus, scoreboards and checkers, and assertions to verify design correctness.

  • Develop Universal Verification Methodology (UVM) components to interface between test code and verification simulation environments.

  • Apply Agile development methodologies including code reviews, sprint planning, and feature deployment.

  • Provide technical leadership through mentorship and teamwork.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • 9+ years of related technical engineering experience

  • OR Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience or internship experience

  • OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience or internship experience

  • OR Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field AND 3+ years technical engineering experience.

  • 8+ years of experience delivering successful IP or Application Specific Integrated Circuits (ASIC)/System on Chip (SOC) designs.

  • 5+ years expertise in Digital Design including microarchitecture specification development, Register Transfer Level (RTL) coding in Verilog/System Verilog and Clock Domain Crossing (CDC)/LINT closure.

  • 5+ years of experience in Synthesis, Timing constraints, Power, Performance, Area (PPA) trade-offs

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

  • 15+ years technical engineering experience

  • OR Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field AND 12+ years technical engineering experience

  • OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience

  • OR Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field AND 5+ years technical engineering experience.

  • 6+ years of experience working on System on Chip (SOC) integration

  • 6+ years of experience with LINT/Clock Domain Crossing (CDC)/Reset Domain Crossing (RDC) closure

  • 5+ years of experience with Synthesis, Timing constraints and Unified Power Format (UPF)

  • Experience with industry standard interfaces such as Advanced eXtensible Interface (AXI), Advanced Peripheral Bus (APB), Joint Test Action Group (JTAG)

  • Experience with writing System Verilog assertions

  • Experience with scripting languages such as Perl or Python

  • Track record of successful tapeouts in deep sub-micron technologies

  • Experience with multiple post silicon bringup and validation cycles

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to facilitate collaboration across Microsoft internal groups and external vendors

  • Ability and willingness to adapt and work on variety of designs

Silicon Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.
