Microsoft has an immediate opening for an experienced commercial attorney to join its Corporate External & Legal Affairs department (CELA) in Bogotá, Colombia, to support the sales organization in a dynamic and diverse set of geographies across Spanish South America

CELA LATAM is a highly motivated, solution-oriented team that includes attorneys and other professionals based in multiple locations across Latin America and whose mission is to drive clear and timely legal support for the sales organization in the region, supporting Microsoft’s most strategic initiatives, driving cloud and AI adoption, unblocking complex deals, providing subject matter expertise, and supporting new and emerging concepts and business initiatives.

The successful candidate for this role will be a trusted advisor and partner for the sales organization in multi-country subsidiaries supporting sales in Spanish South America, contributing to its success. This role is an individual contributor that will operate as part of a regional team of commercial attorneys supporting sales in Spanish South America and will report to the CELA Senior Lead Attorney of Microsoft Spanish South America, based in Bogotá, Colombia.

Responsibilities

Subject Expertise:

  • You provide actionable advice on legal and business matters and serve as an important contributor for clients and colleagues; you have an in-depth understanding of general contract and public procurement laws; Microsoft’s contractual structures and you engage with internal clients and customers to close deals.

Issue Resolution:

  • You resolve issues by managing interactions with internal escalation paths, outside counsel or other service providers.

Communication:

  • You organize and simplify issues and ideas in written or verbal communication; you work collaboratively within and across Legal and Corporate functions; you develop positive relationships with external and legal professions, customers, and partners to advocate for Microsoft's interests.

  • You deliver both indirect and direct legal and strategic assistance for the adoption of cloud and AI technologies through transformational commercial initiatives within the subsidiaries in Spanish South America. This includes engaging in commercial negotiations, drafting transaction contracts, and coordinating stakeholder alignment among various legal and business departments.

Subject Matter Expertise:

  • You provide legal and strategic support both indirectly and directly for transformational commercial engagements of the Spanish South America subsidiaries working with expert stakeholders in the region or in headquarters, including on issues relating to AI, data protection, public procurement, industry specific issues, among others.

Drive Innovation:

  • You use Copilot and other AI tools on your daily activities. You innovate at scale and operationalize our legal support for complex, commercial transactions with our internal legal and business teams as well as external advisors.

Community building:

  • You contribute your expertise and share best practices to Microsoft’s commercial attorneys in Latin America, seeking to build skills and scale for effective legal support, leveraging our own AI tools and Copilot.

Qualifications

Required/minimum qualifications:

  • 5+ years experience as a practicing attorney

  • OR equivalent practice of law.

  • Active license to practice law in a jurisdiction and capable of meeting admission requirements in relevant jurisdiction.

  • Juris Doctor or international equivalent degree

  • OR completion of a legal apprenticeship.

  • Business level fluency to read, write and speak English and Spanish

Additional or preferred qualifications

  • In-house counsel experience.

  • 3+ years experience as an attorney in specialized practice area
