Microsoft Corporation Senior Applied Scientist in Mountain View, California

We are looking for an experienced data scientist or engineer with ML experience who is excited to apply machine learning to real-world problems and build models that will go into production.

On our team, understanding the customer is just the beginning. We analyze customer data, work to understand customer problems, build models to assess these problems, and then work with partner teams to build and ship machine learning models as customer-facing features. A flexible problem-solving attitude with the ability to collaborate across disciplines is vital.. You will be responsible for working responsibly within Microsoft’s industry-leading commitments to user privacy. You will also be responsible for ensuring that your models and features adhere to Microsoft’s Responsible AI policies to ensure fair and unbiased models for all.

We are looking for Senior/Principal Applied Scientists to join our team in Mountain View, CA.

Responsibilities

  • Drive experience by building and deploying an wide array of ML techniques, with a focus on problem solving rather than a particular method or tool kit.

  • Build and ship machine learning models to customers.

  • Work with research teams on the adoption of the latest technologies.

  • Measure the impact of models and work with product teams on appropriate designs of AI-powered experiences.

  • Foster a healthy and inclusive team environment, provide technical guidance to other applied scientists and act as mentor.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years related experience (e.g., statistics predictive analytics, research)

  • OR Master's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)

  • OR Doctorate in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 1+ year(s) related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 3+ years’ experience in machine learning, including building practical machine learning models with applications to real-world problems.

  • 2+ years' experience with ML tools to build models and analyze data. (e.g. PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of distributed/cloud computing systems (e.g. Spark, Hadoop, Azure, AWS, Cosmos).

  • Demonstrated software engineering skills.

  • Deep Learning experience is a plus.

  • Effective communication skills and ability to work cross group and across disciplines.

  • Passion for customers and quality.

  • Ability to ramp up on various domains within Machine Learning such as Computer Vision and Multimodal models

  • Experience shipping high-quality product at-scale is a plus

Applied Sciences IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $112,000 - $218,400 per year.

There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $145,800 - $238,600 per year.

Applied Sciences IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year.

There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.
