Caterpillar’s Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) is responsible for design, manufacture, marketing, and sales of industrial engines for both Cat and Perkins brands product engines. Our global facilities enable us to support our customers wherever they are located in the world.

As a Senior Engineer – Industrial Engines , you will be responsible for interfacing with Cat Machine & Industrial product groups in performance matching engines to the applications and in collecting engine requirements for NPI programs. This position is accountable for delivering superior engine system performance for CAT C7.2 – C18 (Perkins 1506-2806) engines.

Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide engine platform recommendations for all applications, refining and collecting product group performance requirements (lug curves, fluid consumption, heat rejection, response, altitude, etc.), resolving requirement vs capability gaps, and generating performance spec requests (PSRs) to cascade rating requirements to the engine development team.

  • Interface with product group performance engineers, Integrated Power Systems team in ITDD, CAT Electronics, and the Core engine teams to develop & produce engine systems that meet or exceed customer expectations.

  • Prepare and present engine system requirements material for all IPSD-L engine NPI GW reviews.

  • Assist with performance related NPI, CPI, factory hot test issue resolution and support field data analytics projects by mining machine operating profile data to drive design and development robustness.

What You Will Have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field

  • Analytical Thinking: Extensive Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.

  • Effective Communications: Extensive Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.

  • Managing Multiple Priorities: Extensive Knowledge of effective self-management practices; ability to manage multiple concurrent objectives, projects, groups, or activities, making effective judgments as to prioritizing and time allocation.

  • Technical Excellence: Extensive Knowledge of engine performance and emissions and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.

  • Experience with CANape or Data analytics programs

  • Strong organizational and project management skills.

Top Candidates Will Also Have:

  • Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field

  • 8+ years of engine and / or machine performance/analysis experience.

  • Analysis skills using DaTK, Matlab and Simulink.

  • Simulation using DYNASTY and Simulink.

Additional Information:

  • Relocation assistance is not available for this position

  • This position is located in Mossville, IL

  • Up to 10% travel is required
