Job Summary:

Global Quality is a small central organization responsible for championing quality throughout the enterprise in direct support of Caterpillar’s quality vision: “Quality is Excellence in Everything We do”. Global Quality supports both manufacturing and product quality through ownership, governance and training for many of the enterprise’s quality processes. We also provide quality data, analytics, tool development and support.

We are looking for an experienced, highly proficient CPI practitioner to join the CPI core team as a Quality Engineer. In this role, you will be part of a team of process experts that support Caterpillar’s continuous improvement processes – in particular, CPI. A successful candidate will help train and coach CPI executioners and managers throughout the enterprise on the CPI processes and tools. You will collect user VOC and help support the development of CPI tool enhancements – including testing, training material, and enterprise rollout. The successful candidate should be prepared to travel to various global facilities to conduct training and mentoring (2-5 trips per year). As member of the CPI core team, you serve the CPI community through communications, “help desk” support of processes and tool questions, and the collection & dissemination of best practices.

What You Will Do:

The Corporate Quality department leads the enterprise in setting and achieving the corporate quality targets. It champions quality improvement initiatives and provides visibility into the current status of the corporate and individual product group quality performance. The department is responsible for defining and deploying processes, systems, and tools required to manage the quality of the enterprise. Its members work with product groups, engineering, purchasing, manufacturing, sales and service, IT and senior leadership to ensure execution of quality strategies and plans.

The responsibilities of this position include:

• Coach and train the CPI process

• Coach and train myCPI application

• Conduct CPI Essentials, Team Lead, CPI List Manager and CPI Master training

• Support CPI process and myCPI tool improvements

• Understand and Champion the CPI balanced portfolio of performance metrics

• Help coordinate CPI community communications

• Support CPI with a customer focused mindset and a sense of urgency

• Share support of PIQ and Dealer PPM

Education Requirement:

• Engineering or Technical degree with a focus on design or product support

Manufacturing Standards, Procedures and Policies:

• Consults on development and implementation of cross-functional standards.

• Participates in the development of organizational policies and practices.

• Develops and uses control and monitoring mechanisms for adherence.

• Collaborates with other functions on establishing and documenting joint standards.

• Participates in defining architectural principles and standards for organization.

• Ensures communication vehicles are effectively informing affected areas and employees.

Top Candidates Will Also Have:

• At least 10 years of experience in Product Support, Product / Process Design & Development, or Product / Process Validation

• Deep myCPI tool and process knowledge

• Minimum of 5 years working CPI issues, including field support planning and publications

• Strong analytical skills

• Experience with Caterpillar’s suite of quality applications

• Broad understanding of Caterpillar products, organizations and facilities

• Experience with problem solving methodologies including root cause analysis, Ishikawa diagrams, 5 whys, 8-D etc.

• Demonstrated ability to work in a diverse team environment across matrix organizations

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

• Project management skills

• Recognized expert in myCPI tool

• Experience with reliability engineering concepts and techniques.

• Experience coordinating process and tool enhancement projects

• 6 Sigma experience – Black Belt or Greenbelt Project Lead

Additional Information

The location for this position is Mossville, IL.

Domestic relocation assistance is available for this position.

This position may require up to 20% travel.

Summary Pay Range:

$144,960.00 - $217,320.00
