Caterpillar Inc. seeks Autonomy Engineer at its facility located at 14009 Old Galena Rd., Chillicothe, IL 61523.
Develop, integrate, or test complex camera and radar systems that meet prioritized requirements for autonomous machine programs focusing on machine and site safety, and provide a differentiated product value to our customers. Develop, integrate, and/or troubleshoot autonomy software systems used for autonomous machines. Complex autonomy onboard system design work, subsystem testing or system integration. Translate complex program or subsystem requirements into actionable development efforts. Evaluate internal and external automation algorithms to decide which are most appropriate and develop algorithms and code quality software. Work closely with Component Hardware team members to select or understand the autonomy hardware (i.e., ECM’s sensors) that will be used. Strong quality focus through unit testing of the developed code and significant interaction with downstream integration points including Software in the Loop (SIL), Hardware in the Loop (HIL), Simulation, Substitute machine testing and actual machine testing. Advanced data analysis and systems analysis efforts and skills are needed to help troubleshoot complex issues from test or customer sites, and to examine information from test sites to improve overall systems performance. Good communication is expected for technical status updates, subsystem reviews, and when working closely with other system developers, support teams and testing staff in multiple geographic locations and organizations. Keep up with industry trends and new technology breakthroughs through continuous learning through self/internet study, as well as interaction with other autonomous engineers through conferences and papers.
REQS: This position requires a bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field and Two (2) years of experience as an Embedded Systems Engineer, Network Engineer, or related occupation. Additionally, the applicant must have employment experience with: (1) Systems and software product testing such as product testing, creating test plans, and executing testing strategies to ensure application product quality and adherence to stated requirements; (2) Software in the Loop (SIL); (3) Hardware in the Loop (HIL); (4) Simulation tools on physical and remote test benches to substitute machine testing and/or actual machine testing; (5) Camera or radar systems architecture such as detect concepts, technologies and methodologies using camera or radar sensors; and (6) Developing, implementing, or applying camera or radar systems in specific industry domain to achieve business goals.
Travel requirements: 8% domestic & international travel required. Telecommuting: 2 days/ week.
