About Our Team
We are seeking a System Engineer - Power with a server development background and board-level DC power design in the Cloud Service Provider Group (CSP). The Cloud Service Provider Group has a strong focus to be the #1 infrastructure provider for cloud datacenters that providing computing, storage, and GPU services to cloud customers.
The system engineer will be an integral member of a team responsible for developing, testing innovative and complex GPU servers with liquid cooling. These organic designs provide exposure to the latest technologies from Lenovo, its development partners, and customers.
Our CSP solutions are conceptualized, developed, and deployed worldwide, all within our in-house expertise.
Location: This position is based in Morrisville, NC.
What You'll Do
Develop, qualify Racks/server infrastructure in cloud data center, include compute server, storage server, GPU server.
Design and validate power circuits such as driver, single and multi-phase DC-DC voltage regulators for in CPU/GPU server application.
Develop and introduce new power components such as power related IC, BJT/FET transistors, capacitor and inductor vendors for design optimization.
Apply rigorous design principal in function, performance, efficiency, metering accuracy, OV/OC/OP protections, power density, cost, reliability (redundancy), and manufacturability.
Lead technical investigations and issue resolution for production line and field issues.
Work closely with PCB designers to integrate power delivery systems into multi-layer board designs, ensuring proper component placement and routing for power integrity and signal integrity.
Collaborate with thermal engineers to optimize thermal performance and ensure efficient heat dissipation from power components, contributing to the overall thermal management strategy of the server.
Develop test plans and conduct rigorous testing of board-level power systems, including voltage regulation, transient response, efficiency, thermal performance, and EMI/EMC compliance.
Ensure smooth integration of board-level DC power systems with other server subsystems (CPUs, GPUs, memory, storage) by addressing load requirements, voltage sequencing, and power-up behavior.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering, power electronics, or a related field
7+ years of experience in in power electronics, with deep understanding of different power topologies such as AC/DC, DC/DC and DC/AC power conversion, switching power supplies, driver circuits, and battery systems
Experience in power optimization, board design, thermal, mechanical, BIOS, BMC, signal integrity, networking as well as working with CM/OEM/ODM vendors in product development.
Experience in circuit simulators, e.g. Spice and SIMPLIS, optimize schematic and PCB layout.
Experience with EDA tools (e.g., Cadence Allegro, Altium Designer, OrCAD) for schematic capture and PCB layout, and experience with power analysis and simulation tools (e.g., SPICE, LTspice, PLECS).
Hands-on power circuit performance and function validation using scope, ac/dc power sources, power analyzer, thermal data logger and other lab equipment.
Experience with digital hardware design such as microcontrollers and digital interfaces (such as I2C, SPI, SPMI, etc)
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience designing board-level power systems for servers, data center hardware, or other high-performance computing applications.
Experience working with high-density, multi-layer PCBs with stringent power and signal integrity requirements.
Knowledge of power supply units (PSUs) and their integration into server systems.
Familiarity with energy efficiency certifications such as 80 PLUS and regulatory requirements for power systems in enterprise environments.
Understanding of the power requirements for high-performance components like multi-core processors, GPUs, FPGAs, and memory subsystems.
Design knowledge in product safety, compliance, and regulatory standards
