Atlantic Health System Compliance Specialist II in Morristown, New Jersey
The Privacy Specialist will be an integral part of the Compliance department, supporting the implementation of the Compliance program primarily by conducting privacy investigations, providing guidance on HIPAA/privacy matters and educating team members throughout the organization on HIPAA and privacy matters.
Responsibilities:
The Privacy Specialist will investigate reports of unauthorized access, use and/or disclosures of PHI, by reviewing audits of access in medical records, conducting interviews and gathering all pertinent information related to the case. The Privacy Specialist will write summaries of investigations, analyzing the facts and evidence and making consistent recommendations of disciplinary actions; will notify patients of privacy breaches in a timely manner; and maintain documentation of the investigations and patient notifications. The Privacy Specialist will provide guidance for HIPAA/privacy inquiries. In addition, the Privacy Specialist will conduct HIPAA training sessions to educate team members throughout the organization.
This position requires the candidate to manage multiple cases at one time. The employee must be a self-starter with a positive attitude and have the ability to work independently as well as part of the team. This position requires extensive written and verbal communication with all departments in the organization and individuals both in and outside of the organization.
Education:
Associates Degree Required, Bachelor's Degree preferred
Experience:
Minimum of 2 years of experience performing privacy investigations
Strong understanding of HIPAA and privacy laws
Desired skills:
Advanced computer skills, including MS Office Suite
Professional certification in healthcare compliance (e.g., CHPC, CHC) is a plus
