The Director, Risk Management provides leadership to the West Virginia University Hospitals, Inc. Risk Management Program to protect the interests of WVUH, patients and visitors by focusing on clinical risk identification, regulatory risk reduction, facility risk prevention and risk control. The goals of the program are to provide a proactive risk mitigation program by working to provide a safe environment and quality patient care through the risk management principles of identifying, investigating, analyzing, and evaluating risk. In doing so, selecting the most advantageous methods of correcting, reducing, or eliminating identifiable risks that may adversely affect our patients, visitors, and employees or the quality of care provided to patients in our facilities, as well as reduce the overall cost of risk to the organization. This individual will provide assistance to other WVUH departments and System institutions as necessary or as directed by the Assistant Vice President, Senior Litigation Counsel.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE: 1. Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Management, Law, Public Health, Nursing or other healthcare-related field. EXPERIENCE: 1. Five (5) years of management experience in a healthcare setting. 2. Three (3) years of experience in a related field, including risk management, quality improvement, and/or claims management.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE: 1. Master's degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Management, Law, Public Health, Jurisprudence, or an approved Nursing Program, or other related healthcare field or equivalent experience. 2. Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ), Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM), JD; Registered Nurse, or other healthcare professional. EXPERIENCE: 1. At least 3 years' experience in Healthcare Risk Management, including experience with Enterprise risk management, legal, claims management, CANDOR or other disclosure and apology program, and conducting proactive clinical risk assessments. Experience in an academic medical center preferred. 2. Experience in leading and building teams and relationships with stakeholders including medical staff.
