Your Impact at SAM
The Survey Technician / Instrument Operator plays a crucial role in supporting a land survey crew through the proficient use of various survey instruments. This position offers an opportunity to work closely with a Crew Chief and gain valuable field experience in land surveying.
Key Responsibilities:
Field Survey Support: Assist in conducting field surveys under the guidance of a Crew Chief, ensuring accurate and efficient data collection
Equipment Operation and Maintenance: Operate, inspect, and perform basic field adjustments on land survey equipment such as tripods, tribrachs, levels, total stations, GNSS receivers, and data radios/modems
Data Collection and Computation: Utilize survey controllers and specialized software to gather geospatial data and execute survey computations
Map and Plan Interpretation: Read and interpret a variety of maps and plans to aid in survey operations
Field Note Management: Maintain neat and organized field notes, documenting survey operations under the supervision of the Crew Chief
Communication: Keep the Crew Chief informed of any issues or progress in the field
Equipment Handling: Load and unload trucks with survey equipment and supplies, ensuring proper handling and transportation
Maintenance: Clean and maintain survey equipment, tools, and vehicles to ensure they are in optimal working condition
Safety Compliance: Adhere to company safety procedures to ensure a safe working environment during all survey operations
What You Bring to SAM
Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
Possession of a valid, current driver’s license
One year industry experience
Knowledgeable in the principles and performance of basic types of surveys, survey computations, and field operations
Ability to work continually outside in all types of weather conditions and terrain
Ability to work out of town, in remote locations, for extended periods of time
