LIFE MISSION SCHOOL Substitute Teacher K-12 in MONTICELLO, Utah

Overview:

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Substitute Teacher who is committed to implementing our school's values, and teaching in an outdoor learning environment. We have tents and trees for the warm seasons and a heated, indoor gym for the winter season.

Schedule:

  • Sept 3 - May 23: School year subbing, 4.5 hour school day, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, & Thursdays, Fridays a shorter day.
  • Daily Schedule: 9:30 am pick up students, transport to forest (20 min drive), teach until 2:30 pm, transport back to the same location. Eat lunch with students. One 10 minute break in the day.
  • Breaks -- Standard Holidays

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee Students: Implement the guidelines as given by the main teacher. Oversee up to 10 students, side by side with another teacher that has their own students they are overseeing. Manage up to 20 students while the 2nd teacher takes a break for 10 minutes.
  • Provide Guidance and Support: Serve as a mentor and guide for students, offering assistance when needed while promoting independence and problem-solving skills.
  • Ensure Safety and Well-Being: Implement appropriate safety protocols and risk management procedures while encouraging students to develop skills in assessing and managing risks in outdoor environments. Effectively manage emergency procedures and protocols in case of accidents, injuries, or other critical situations that may arise during activities.
  • Transport children: Maintain safety of children and transport from the elementary school in Blanding or Monticello to the forest and back, using either the school's vehicles.

Qualifications:

  • Must be 18+ years old.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and a good driving record.
  • Must pass a background check.
  • Must be physically agile in the forest.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with students, parents/guardians, and colleagues.
  • Passion for education and a commitment to promoting the school's mission and values.
  • Responsible & Reliable

Preferred:

  • Certification in CPR & first aid or a willingness to obtain certifications.
  • Previous experience working in an outdoor education setting.
