Toxicology & Regulatory Compliance Specialist

**This position is located in Dearborn, MI and is a hybrid role where currently you will come into the office one day a week.

In this position…

You will assist Ford Customer Service Division (FCSD) Chem/Toxicology team in conducting toxicology, regulatory, and environmental reviews for all service chemical products. Work closely with Ford Office of the General Counsel (OGC), Hazardous Materials (Hazmat) Compliance Office, Environmental Quality Office (EQO), International Distribution Operations (IDO), and suppliers to develop GHS-compliant SDSs and labeling statements using the GHS SDS Authoring system. Provide toxicology and regulatory-related advice to other regional FCSD Toxicology teams (e.g., International Markets Group (IMG) and China market) and FCSD Managements. Perform various regulatory compliance actions at the federal, state, local, and provincial levels.

In this role, you will:

  • Soliciting, collecting, organizing, and conducting preliminary reviews of supplier datasets (e.g., Manufacturer Product Information Request (MPIR)/Sub-supplier Product Information Request (SPIR) forms, SDSs, and labels).

  • Perform data quality checks on suppliers' submissions and documents, contact and follow up with suppliers for additional chemical and other necessary information.

  • Develop GHS-compliant Ford SDSs and hazard labeling statements in accordance with OSHA, WHMIS, CPSC, CCCR, CPEA, and EPA regulations.

  • Provide hazard classifications for post-production materials based on GHS, CPSC, and CCCR criteria. Create Toxicology Review Comments.

  • Conduct scientific literature research and perform ad hoc quantitative risk assessments for chemicals listed under California Proposition 65, as necessary.

  • Serve as the FCSD representative on the corporate RSMS committee, review chemical substances, and conduct necessary chemical impact assessments as needed.

You’ll have:

  • 3-5 years of experience in Occupational Health and GHS hazard classifications, SDSs/labeling statements authoring/Reviewing experience.

  • Minimum master’s degree in toxicology or industrial hygiene is preferred. Master’s degree in chemistry or environmental science is also accepted.

  • Received formal training in GHS hazard classification and labeling, consumer product labeling, SDS-authoring, and/or California Proposition 65 labeling and risk assessment methodologies.

  • Experience and understanding of OSHA, CPSC, WHMIS, CCCR, TSCA, NSNRs regulations, and GHS hazard classification requirements.

  • Excellent personal computer skills, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Adobe.

  • Strong written and interpersonal communication skills required.

Even better, you may have:

  • Proficiency in the Canadian French language is a plus.

  • Safety Data Sheet Authoring Certification preferred

This role is a salary grade SG7-SG8
