DEPARTMENT: Probate Court

ENTRY SALARY: $42.35 per hour, plus benefits

JOB SUMMARY: This position provides support to the Judge by reviewing cases, providing legal advice, and hearing cases from the bench as assigned by the Judge. Reviews filings by attorneys to make sure they are appropriate to proceed. Reviews case law and may advise court action in complex civil and criminal cases. Provides support for various pre-trial motions, including motions for summary judgment, discovery disputes, motions to suppress evidence, motions to quash, etc.; drafts memoranda and court orders as required. Conducts research and advises the Court during bench trials as required by Judge; attends bench trials as required. Assists customers and clerks when possible. Responsible for day-to-day operations when the Probate Judge is absent.

Prepares notes for upcoming court calendars. Assists in scheduling hearings as needed. Performs related duties.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from an accredited school of law. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship / internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
