General Information & Responsibilities
The Assistant Facilities Superintendent is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining the exterior facilities maintenance programs at all Quad-Cities locations including the related planning, budgeting and financial management. The scope of this position includes all roads and grounds, equipment maintenance, trees, drainage systems and flood plains, parking lots, and equipment to maintain all of these areas. Directs and provides snow and ice removal, lawn and landscape care and provides other services as assigned.
Description of Duties
DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
a. Responsible for all grounds maintenance work including mowing and trimming of all turf; removal of fallen branches and/or dead trees; planting and replanting of trees and shrubs in the refined and finished areas to maintain the park-like quality of existing grounds. All exterior environments, including, but limited to ornamental plantings and landscaping are included in this area of responsibility.
b. In conjunction with the Facilities Superintendent, responsible for general maintenance and repairs of sidewalks, parking lots, roadway systems, drainage systems, and outside signs.
c. Responsible for snow and ice removal and all of its aspects.
d. Directs lawn and landscape care and all of its aspects.
e. Assists Facilities Superintendent with architects, contractors, Vice-President for Finance and Administration and others to coordinate and manage Quad-City Campus grounds as needed.
f. Responsible for the employment, training, and discipline of personnel in assigned areas.
g. Responsible for assigned staff in matters concerning hiring, promotion, layoffs, employment related disputes, and disciplinary matters, including discharge.
h. Responsible for maintenance of all equipment assigned to this function and responsible for maintaining accurate inventory records of same which includes major overhauls and/or repairs to all equipment.
i. Responsible for helping to prepare budget information and financial management for this function and responsible for expenditures within pre-established guidelines of the College.
j. Responsible for annual and semi-annual performance appraisal reviews for all assigned staff.
k. Oversees the work of others; instructs in the proper methods and procedures of grounds work.
l. Develops a comprehensive work schedule which provides the maximum machine and personnel usage to provide the campus with the best possible grounds’ services. m. Chairs the recycling committee and responsible for the recycling program.
n. Conducts inspections of grounds, structures and associated equipment.
o. Maintains knowledge of and ensures compliance with all federal, state, local, and departmental safety regulations.
p. Serves on various College planning committees as directed by the Facilities Superintendent including the safety committee.
q. Maintains satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record.

PRINCIPAL WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
a. Works directly with the Facilities Superintendent to ensure implementation of goals and objectives.
b. Works cooperatively with other leads within the facilities group and the Executive Vice President to help implement departmental goals and objectives.
c. Works with all staff and students by discussing mutual problems and concerns in a polite, business-like manner, promoting good will to all served.
Education & Experience
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: (To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.)
a. Bachelor’s degree required or 8 years of grounds experience
b. Minimum of five years progressively responsible experience in grounds required.
c. Experience utilizing MS Office with proficiency in Word and Excel preferred.
d. Able to lift up to 75 pounds on a regular basis.
e. Knowledge of the materials, methods, and practices used in grounds operations.
f. Working knowledge of OSHA regulations required.
g. Must maintain license and satisfactory MRV
h. Valid Illinois CDL drivers license preferred.
i. Must possess a public operator's I.D. card for turf pesticide control as required by Illinois Dept. of Agriculture and Bureau of Environment within six months of hire date and be able to maintain.
j. Knowledge of mechanical maintenance or an interest in maintenance type work desired.
