Environmental Resources Management South West Consultant, Field Biologist - R00023013 in Mobile, Alabama

ERM is hiring a

Consultant, Field Biologist to conduct aquatic surveys, including fish, macroinvertebrates, and physical habitat parameters for projects across North America

. Successful candidates must be flexible and responsive to a challenging and changing work environment where schedules, site locations, and tasks fluctuate according to the needs of the project. This is a field leadership role requiring strong technical, leadership, organizational, and communication skills. Practical skills in a range of active and passive sampling techniques included electrofishing, gill netting, seining, kicknetting, and environmental DNA collection are required. In-depth knowledge of native non-game fish taxonomy and biogeography in the southeast United States and prior malacological experience are both highly desirable.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Task leadership and performance of fish and mussel surveys and construction monitoring.
  • Conduct or support field wetland delineations.
  • Work locations are often remote and requires candidate to work independently.
  • Monitoring involves coordination with construction crews and providing advice for maintaining compliance with client requirements.
  • Electronic data collection.
  • Handheld and sub-meter accurate GPS data collection.
  • Daily reporting and survey report compilation.
  • Coordinate and lead survey teams.
  • Compliance with ERMs rigorous safety program.
  • Desktop constraint reviews require an understanding of digitally available resource layers and ability to learn quickly in a high-paced environment.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • At least 2 years of field survey experience required. Experience conducting laboratory based taxonomic analyses may be considered in lieu of field survey experience, but the successful candidate will have a minimum of one year of field experience leading fish surveys.
  • Ability to work safely outdoors in variable weather conditions and on challenging terrain.
  • Working knowledge of sub-meter accuracy GPS technologies and map interpretation skills (e.g., NWI, USGS, aerial photography).
  • Must have a strong attention to detail in documentation of work.
  • Must have strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Desire to work in the field for extended period and maintain a positive attitude.
  • Willingness and ability to travel with overnight stays possible.
  • Demonstrated independent and effective problem solving and decision making skills.
  • Possess a valid drivers license with good driving record.
