Summary This National Guard position is for a SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC, Position Description Number NGD1193000 and is part of CSMS 1. This is a Title 32, Dual-Status position. AREA(S) OF CONSIDERATION: - Members of the South Dakota Army National Guard. - Applicants eligible for membership in the South Dakota Army National Guard. Responsibilities As a SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC, WG-5801-8/10, you will: This position is located in the Joint Forces Headquarters-State, Logistics Directorate (J-4), Surface Maintenance Facility. The purpose of this position is to perform maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, inspection, and/or overhaul of a variety of combat, tactical, commercial, and special purpose vehicles and equipment. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED: This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the National Guard. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment. MILITARY REQUIREMENTS: Warrant Officer or Enlisted. Military grade inversion within the full-time work force is not permitted. The military grade of the full-time supervisor must equal or exceed the military grade of personnel supervised. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training which demonstrates knowledge of equipment to be able to do routine jobs, simple preventative maintenance tasks, and is able to use common tools and equipment in the line of work. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: WG-8: Must have at least 12 months experience in the KSAs listed below. Experience or training using common hand and power tools and a small variety of test and measurement devices to make mechanical repairs. Experience removing, adjusting, replacing, cleaning, and installing a variety of parts, components, and accessories. Experience which demonstrates a basic understanding of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic theory applying to vehicles; and skill to replace, fit, install, and make adjustments. Experience demonstrating an understanding of the makeup and operation of the various individual systems maintained and their interrelationships. Experience reading and interpreting parts lists, manufactures' repair manuals, diagrams, and electrical schematics. WG-10: Must have at least 18 months experience in the KSAs listed below. Experience or training diagnosing, repairing, overhauling, and modifying more complex vehicles, equipment, and more complicated systems. Experience which has provided a thorough knowledge of diagnostic equipment. Experience applying independent judgment in determining methods and techniques required to solve unusually complex maintenance and repair problems. Experienced in testing, inspecting, and evaluating the work performed on vehicles, equipment and systems. Skill in diagnosing, repairing, overhauling, and modifying more complex vehicles, equipment, and more complicated systems. Knowledge of diagnostic equipment. Skill in applying independent judgment in determining methods and techniques required to solve unusually complex maintenance and repair problems. Skill in testing, inspecting, and evaluating the work performed on vehicles, equipment and systems. Statement of Difference: The incumbent selected will meet the experience and educational requirements for entry at the developmental level of WG-08 for a Surface Maintenance Mechanic, WG-5801-10, Position Description (PD) # NGD1194000. A locally developed Individual Development Plan (IDP) will be established for the incumbent. This plan will be designed to provide the individual selected with the opportunity to gain the formal on-the-job training for the position. This allows the individual to gain the required knowledge, experience and skills required for promotion to the full operating level of the Surface Maintenance Mechanic at the WG-10 level. The Supervisor and Human Resources Office will be responsible for ensuring the incumbent is performing the full scope of duties and responsibilities listed within the statement of difference when working under normal supervisory controls prior to allowing the individual to be promoted. * Candidates must possess a valid state driver's license. * *NOTE: This announcement is open until filled, not to exceed 1 July 24.
