What you’ll be doing

As a member of the Personal and Business Banking Team, the Senior Director, Financial Planning will be responsible for providing highly effective leadership and mentoring to the regional team of Financial Planning Consultants in pursuit of CIBC’s mission to be the recognized leader within CIBC and the marketplace. The Senior Director, Financial Planning along with the Financial Planning teams are focused on the accumulation and preservation of high-value clients' wealth and ensuring clients’ have valuable and nurtured partnerships with other CIBC advisors. The Senior Director, Financial Planning will ensure that the Financial Planning Team is adhereing to regulatory requirements, compliance guidelines and internal strategies and policies to ensure customer satisfaction and retention. The Senior Director, Financial Planning will motivate the Regional Financial Planning team to achieve monthly, quarterly, annual sales and business mix targets.

How you’ll succeed

  • People Leadership Create a positive work environment and be an effective role model by championing CIBC’s mission, vision and values. Assign work and manage performance by setting clear expectations and by providing fair and accurate formal and informal feedback. Identify obstacles that hinder performance and coach to performance expectations to ensure they align with business priorities for the Financial Planning advisory team. Arrange and coordinate professional development to maintain and increase investment industry, planning and product knowledge of the sales team. Proactively work to attract new talent and build strong talent pipeline.

  • Results Driven Leadership Develop and manage relationships with all relevant CIBC partner groups such as Personal & Small Business Banking, Private Wealth Management, Wealth Management, Commercial & Investment Banking and Wealth Strategies. Monitor and ensure that Financial Planning Consultants advice and recommendations/solutionsalign with CIBC’s integrated offer. Work with Personal & Small Business leadership team to develop market business plans,regional planning targets, conduct market and regional assessments, analyze sales team productivity and planning capabilities, establish development goals and implement action plans.

  • Subject Matter and Compliance Expert Ensure sales team adheres to regulatory requirements, compliance guidelines and internal strategies and policies; Maintain awareness and knowledge of relevant existing and impending policies and legislation, participate in the development of sales and advice compliance guidelines, review procedures and sales compensation plans with national office to ensure they are effective and competitive within the Region. Share best practices and expertise on financial planning with Financial Planning Team and other relevant CIBC partner groups.

Who you are

  • Strong knowledge of the financial planning and services landscape, principles, and practices to analyze and interpret complex concepts and apply strategic initiatives.

  • Hold a the Certified Financial Planners designation and completion of the Canadian Securities course

  • In depth experience and knowlege of the asset management and investment management solution landscape in Canada

  • Experience in leading or contributing to financial planning and or investment planning execution

  • Strong knowledge of the investment regulatory and financial planning industry landscape

  • Proven practical knowledge and experience of sales and management of a large and complex sales team

  • As a member of the senior management team, expected to significantly contribute to the long term strategic vision and management of CIBC Financial Planning at a regional and national level.

  • Strong knowledge of bank operations required to participate in the design and implementation of management processes and tools

  • Proven ability to effectively manage multiple activities with varying complexity while under tight time frames.

  • Well-developed communication and interactive skills to convey factual and conceptual information on issues requiring detailed explanation/interpretation and communicate effectively at all levels in the organization.

  • Ability to establish productive relationships between various leaders, departments and partners across Personal and Small Business Banking, Commercial Banking and Wealth Management, as well as other groups across the organization

  • Ability to influence stakeholders from varied backgrounds, with differing priorities and over which one does not have direct authority

  • Ensure effective management of Operating Expenses (DOE) and project funding.
