Job Overview

Position Schedule: Full-Time

Edward Jones is seeking a highly skilled business leader to serve as a director of Strategy Consulting and Planning within our Canadian Planning and Enablement team. The director will work as a strategic advisor with the most senior levels of Edward Jones, specifically within our Canadian business unit, and including Enterprise and business segment leaders to help advise and evaluate strategies for high-impact enterprise undertakings and growth initiatives. The Director will support these efforts include leading decision-making exercises and strategy workshops, developing options and recommendations, and conducting scenario analysis.

Key Responsibilities include the following:

  • Apply industry knowledge and the knowledge of Edward Jones business strategy to determine the necessary investments and the sequencing of initiatives over the short, medium, and long-term. Lead the development of vision, mission, and long-term strategy with the senior management team.

  • Provide consultative support to help executive leadership achieve multi-year plans and strategic initiatives.

  • Proactively identify opportunities to advance goals aligned with enterprise objectives, which will require deep subject matter expertise across multiple domains of wealth management.

  • Develop a deep understanding of internal stakeholder/business leader business objectives and challenges, and lead the development of tailored solutions that meet their needs.

  • Facilitate the formulation of strategic objectives, integrating findings from internal research, external developments, and leadership's priorities.

  • Lead the maintenance of and modification to the Canada business unit strategic plan through the management of a strategic planning process.

  • Drive measurement of progress against stated short, medium, and long-term strategies.

  • Conduct thorough analyses of high impact strategic issues confronting the firm, collaborating with and managing cross-functional teams as required.

  • Communicate strategic priorities and execution plans across the firm via presentations, meetings, and written communications.

  • Understand industry trends as well as understanding our internal capabilities and business drivers, in order to create the best strategic options for the firm, based on where the industry is going and where we are as a business.

  • Potentially lead a team of leaders and associates with mandates for strategy formulation and competitive insights.

  • Lead/facilitate strategic exercises and various strategy workshops with stakeholders across the firm.

  • Collaborate with Edward Jones Ventures, our business development area, to leverage initiatives on a North American basis, and source, assess, and execute on new investment and partnership opportunities.

  • Build industry relationships and participates in external conferences.

Skills/Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree is required with an emphasis in Accounting, Finance, or Economics.

  • Advanced Degree(s) or Certification(s) in Business, Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Analytics are preferred.

  • 10+ years of relevant work experience, with a preference for analytical and/or core strategy work within financial services. Management consulting experience is preferred, and in-depth knowledge of the Canadian Wealth Management industry is required.

  • Prior leadership experience is preferred.

  • Demonstrable problem-solving, quantitative and analytical skills are required.

  • Experience managing the work of multiple projects is required.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are required as the position will be responsible for significant thought leadership.

  • Experience leading high-impact strategy assignments is required.

  • Experience leading project teams is required.

The position requires complex problem solving and rigorous analysis related to strategic items impacting the Canadian Business Unit, and potentially the Firm:

  • Responsible for the oversight of multiple ongoing Canada business unit strategic initiatives.

  • Required to synthesize a complex multitude of external and internal factors on a continuing basis to facilitate the formulation of business unit strategy to drive continued differentiation for the firm.

  • Required to analyze strategic recommendations to ensure alignment to firm.

  • Consult with stakeholders to understand business issues through interviews and immersive learning, to understand what solutions are needed.

  • Effectively partners with other leaders to examine alternative solutions and to understand the broad implications of the solutions.

  • Connects enterprise goals and outcomes with business, operational and technological considerations.

  • Leverages client insights and emerging trends to improve cross-firm initiatives and impact the Canada business unit strategic plan.

Duties include the following:

  • Provide thought leadership and consultation to executive leadership in development of business unit strategy.

  • Assess competition and evaluate industry trends and market changes to drive business strategy.

  • Build industry relationships with vendors, research partners, and other third-party providers.

  • Facilitate the strategic planning process and the development of the Canada business unit long-term strategy.
