Job Overview

Position Schedule: Full-Time

The Canada Project Management Office (PMO) Director is responsible for the PMO supporting our Canadian Business Unit, as part of our Strategic Planning & Enablement department. The PMO Director is responsible for the success and effectiveness of Edward Jones Canada (EJCA) prioritization of portfolios, programs, and projects; mature the EJCA PMO to enable portfolio and program management processes and tools to objectively, and effectively, align project work to EJCA and Enterprise strategic objectives. Responsibilities also include:

Responsible for all departments and teams reporting to the Project Management Office (PMO) within EJCA.

  • Facilitating and supporting the EJCA vision, strategy, structure, talent, objectives, priorities and policies.

  • Anticipating business needs and ensure that EJCA is being developed to handle both current and future needs.

  • Ensuring decision-making structure is clearly defined to support portfolios, programs and projects; partner with division leaders to establish the decision-making structure.

  • Ensuring Firm PMO engagement in strategic planning and execution to define a clear planning and execution structure of portfolio, programs, and projects to support the EJCA's execution of strategies.

  • Driving the strategy and approach for creating a resource management, allocation, and capacity framework with EJCA leaders to allow timely decisions to be made on resource assignments.

  • Create a culture of collaboration with leaders across business segments, departments, divisions and vendors.

  • Ensuring project deliverables foster branch, client, and home office adoption through pro-active partnerships with Change Management and Insights Network.

  • Ensuring all projects follow a discipline for identifying key interdependencies, and lead integration opportunities, across divisions to ensure alignment of strategies and leverage synergies in work and product delivery.

  • Escalating trade-off decisions to scope based on cost / benefit analysis; communicate recommendations to Sr. leaders.

  • Working with Firm Planning and other PMOs to determine the effectiveness of EJCA's portfolio of projects through benefit realization; track portfolio contributions to established divisional and firm metrics to analyze the business impact after implementations.

  • Partner with other PMOs outside EJCA to share industry and internal best practices, and build a culture of transparency and collaboration to mature all PMOs.

  • Informing and guiding Sr. leader dashboards that show the progress of EJCA portfolio; ensuring PMO KPIs are clearly defined and tracked; communicating through direct contact with Sr. leaders to show progress toward KPIs and ensure alignment to strategic direction.

  • Creating an environment of learning, capacity building, and agile/flexible delivery that allows EJCA PMO associates to continually grow, while broadening their skillsets to serve in multiple business areas.

  • Ensuring EJCA PMO's value proposition is shared and understood across the division and firm-wide by driving the creation of PMO vision, mission and objectives that resonate with division leaders, and communicating PMO's services clearly.

  • Creating an environment of innovation (incremental and disruptive) by ensuring a balance between strategic and tactical work required to mature EJCA PMO to higher levels of value.

Skills/Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required

  • MBA or graduate degree preferred

  • Edward Jones Project management certification or PMP certification, or similar professional certification required, or ability to obtain within 12 months of entering the position.

  • 10 or more years of related business experience with increasingly responsible positions. Experience must include leading departments and/or functions, leading other leaders, planning, setting strategy and direction, and leading "enterprise-wide" efforts.

  • 7 years of leadership experience including significant people responsibilities and delivering results through others.

  • 10+ years of portfolio, program, and/or project management experience

  • Demonstrated ability to develop vision and provide strategic and long term thought leadership at a broad level, as well as a day-to-day strategic approach to issues and challenges.

  • Demonstrated ability to influence, build consensus, and foster collaboration throughout the decision making process, between stakeholders that are often across multiple divisions and locations.

  • Demonstrated ability to navigate through uncertain and challenging situations; able to confront and resolve conflict and positive outcomes.

  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate future business needs relative to capacity, talent, industry trends, technology etc., and ensure that the area is being developed to handle both current and future needs.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop a comprehensive business case in alignment with the overall firm strategies and objectives.

  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written) with a strong ability to influence directly and indirectly across multiple areas or divisions

  • Superior systems thinking and integration management analytical skills

  • Superior change management skills with demonstrated ability for delivering results and adoption of new processes, tools and ideas.

  • Experience mentoring leaders at all levels.

Problem Solving:

  • Effectively analyze and resolve complex problems that span across departments, divisions and business segments. Ability to facilitate root cause analysis, and arrive at clear strategic and tactical solutions with multiple areas.

  • Ability to quickly translate strategic Canada business unit and enterprise objectives into a high-level approach / plan for execution across teams and divisions.

  • Ability to lead disruptive innovation and change within PMO Canada, while aligning to Jones culture; partner with other PMOs to arrive at holistic solutions across the firm.

Decision Making:

  • Makes complex decisions and/or recommendations with consideration for portfolio prioritization risks, resources, dependencies and long-term impacts. Some decisions may be in gray areas where little or no guidance is available.

  • Ensures the alignment of decisions with Canada Business Unit objectives and enterprise strategies. Explores multiple alternatives and collaborates with Sr. leaders to arrive at appropriate decisions.

  • Degree of decision making risk is high, as decisions made during a project's lifecycle can impact the performance of the division.

Span of Influence:

  • Facilitates and, at times, leads the strategic operationalization (transforming strategies into execution) at the business unit level.

  • Position has influence over all PMO efforts that impact the Canada Business Unit.

  • Responsible for the health of the business unit portfolio of projects.

  • Accountable for leader and associate development and performance and ensuring that development occurs for all.

  • Participates and contributes to the business segment and enterprise objectives, and on industry groups and can influence industry practices in the best interest of our clients. The Director may also have responsibility for leading and achieving a business unit strategy, objective or working group.
