PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
As a Marketing and Pricing Specialist, you will develop strategic market plans and implement price and product offerings that optimizes retention, growth, profitability and value for the CPKC Intermodal business segment.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Develop and implement market strategies for the assigned Intermodal market segment, including market and industry size-up, competitive assessment, strategic product and price recommendations, target market opportunities, and action plans to optimize value (yield/margin and/or growth)
Develop pricing recommendations and structures for the assigned market segment that aligns with the Intermodal market playbook. Recommend improvements to processes or tools as required
Lead market strategy and analytics for all assigned contract renewals, including assessment of key value levers and relative value, cost and profitability analysis, price compares, volume flow and trend analysis, and performance to contract terms
Assess and develop targeted approaches for new opportunities within the assigned Intermodal market segment, including trading space boundaries for bids/RFP’s, and CPKC preferred position for new customer opportunities, emerging markets and/or significant changes to industry structures
Track market segment performance against annual and multi-year revenue and market forecasts, and recommend actions to deliver the revenue and market outlook. Provide input to the forecasting and budgeting process
Represent CPKC Intermodal with interline partners on joint opportunities and interline pricing strategies
Participate in customer and industry events and meetings to gain market knowledge
Work cross-functionally with stakeholder departments, such as Sales, Finance, Assets, Operations, IS, etc., to enable corporate alignment on market segment initiatives. Represent the assigned Intermodal market segment on cross-functional project teams
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
University Degree is preferred; Marketing or Business Administration focus would be an asset
3+ years market analysis and or pricing experience within transportation, supply chain management, distribution, logistics or pricing / marketing analysis in other industries is considered an asset
Financial acumen and ability to conduct business analysis
Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills
Ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with cross-functional stakeholders
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
Strong sense of urgency when required
