Pacific Air Forces Bartender in Misawa AFB, Japan

Summary About the position: The purpose of this position is to mix and serve pre-mixed alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages from a limited service bar at the Misawa Collocated Club, 35th Force Support Squadron, Misawa AB, Japan. This is a Flexible category position; Guaranteed 0 hours per week, but may work up to 40 hours per week, depending on the needs of the facility. Military Spouse Preference IS NOT lost if selected for this position. This position is NOT eligible to receive SOFA status. Responsibilities Operates limited service bars. Prepares a limited variety of alcoholic drinks by selecting proper premix and garnish. Serves beer, soda and wine. Serves patrons directly or delivers to waiter. Receives payment, operates cash register, and makes and returns change to patrons or waiter. Sets up bar for operation and obtains cash bank. Maintains work area neat and clean. Washes bar equipment, glassware, and utensils. Stocks service bars and assists higher-level bartender as required. May be required to prepare documentation for cash funds accountability. May be required to work an uncommon tour of duty to include days, nights, weekends, and holidays. Performs other related duties as assigned. Knowledge of correct proportions and mixtures to use in preparing beverages. Ability to recognize intoxicated or unruly patrons and to resolve the problem or seek assistance if needed. Ability to follow cash handling procedures. Supervisor provides guidance and evaluates work performance and is available to answer questions and resolve customer dissatisfactions. Work is evaluated on ability to carry out supervisors' instructions concerning work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines. Requires frequent light to moderate lifting and carrying of objects weighing 5 to 15 pounds, pushing and pulling objects weighing 10 to 20 pounds and occasionally lifting up to and over 40 pounds. Heavier objects such as beer kegs are usually transported with the aid of a dolly. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Who May Apply: Open to everyone. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Qualifying Experience: Must have experience mixing alcoholic beverages for retail sale, which includes knowledge of correct proportions and mixtures to use in preparing beverages. Must be able to recognize intoxicated or unruly patrons and to resolve the problem or seek assistance if needed. Must be able to follow cash handling procedures. Must be physically able to frequently lift objects weighing 5 to 15 pounds, pull and push objects weighing 10 to 20 pounds, and occasionally lift up to and over 40 pounds. Satisfactorily complete a pre-employment physical. Must meet the appropriate minimum age requirement for working with and/or serving alcoholic beverages. Must be able to obtain a Food Handler's Certificate and/or complete food handler's training. Must be able to communicate clearly with customers, and possess skill in dealing with the public. Successful completion and favorable adjudication of applicable background investigation (Tier 1 Level) is required. May be required to work an uncommon tour of duty to include days, nights, weekends, and holidays. Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution in order to qualify. Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. All Federal NAF employees are required by PL 104-134 to have salary payments made by electronic funds transfer/direct deposit. Probationary period may be required. Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from hiring preferences and priority consideration eligible.
