The Senior Financial & Accounting Analyst role within Community & State will be responsible for the revenue reporting, analysis, reconciliation and general accounting activities for multiple health plan exchange markets. Responsibilities will also include membership, revenue, and cash reconciliations, mid-month and month end revenue and membership projections, support for monthly financial closings, financial analyses and reporting.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Own primary oversight of one or more state Medicaid health plan core financial statements, including Balance Sheet and Income Statement

  • Own primary responsibility for the accuracy and completeness of health plan financial statements

  • Maintain general ledger accounts and related activities for the production of health plan financial statements and reports

  • Reconcile, analyze and review general ledger accounts in preparation for month end close cycles

  • Prepare journal entries and review accounting classifications, in accordance with generally - accepted accounting principles

  • Assist with or lead the month - end and quarter - end close process for assigned health plan(s)

  • Perform both routine and ad hoc reporting and analysis for assigned health plan results, taking lead on the investigation, resolution, and interpretation of issues to management

  • Own primary responsibility for the fulfillment of audit (internal and external) requests, as needed

  • Support the organization's sound internal control structure around U.S. GAAP, Sarbanes - Oxley and Model Audit Rule compliance (as applicable)

  • Liaise with core business partners within the organization for assigned health plans, including but not limited to Regulatory Reporting, Health Plan Finance, FP&A, Actuarial, Legal, Compliance

  • Collaborate with management with the identification and documentation of financial risks and opportunities impacting assigned health plan(s)

  • Work toward being subject matter experts on various Medicaid contract provisions for assigned health plan(s), including risk share arrangements and performance guarantees, where applicable

  • Adapt to and manage through financial impacts of the Affordable Care Act (health care reform) to assigned health plan(s)

  • Collaborate with management to adapt to and manage through contract amendments / renewals and the resulting accounting impacts

  • Perform work in a both team - oriented and self - directed work environments and demonstrate ability to work with less structured, more complex issues

  • Serve as a resource to others within the Controllership, including Optum Global Solutions (OGS) staff based in India

  • Collaborate with team members on special projects, as needed

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and / or relevant accounting experience

  • 3+ years of professional accounting experience

  • Solid understanding and practical application of U.S. GAAP

  • Intermediate proficiency utilizing Microsoft Office Suite applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio)

  • Previous experience working with general ledger / sub-ledger accounting applications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous public accounting experience and / or CPA designation

  • Previous Medicaid and/or health care industry experience

  • Ability to demonstrate solid planning and organizational skills, along with a high degree of detail orientation

  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with customers and colleagues, both internal and external

  • Ability to work in both team and self-directed work environments

  • Ability to demonstrate good communication skills, both verbal and written

  • Ability to assess and interpret customer needs and requirements

  • Ability to solve moderately complex problems and / or conduct moderately complex analyses

  • Ability to identify viable solutions to non-standard requests and problems

  • Ability to effectively prioritize and juggle multiple concurrent projects

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with al minimum wage laws as applicable.
